About the Job

The School of Public Health Division of Epidemiology & Community Health is seeking applications for a part-time Resource Coordinator (temporary/casual 0001) to join the Driven To Discover (D2D) Research Facility at the Minnesota State Fair.

Pay: $27.00 per hour

Work Arrangements: The University of Minnesota endorses "Work. With Flexibility." and we offer a flexible work environment that meets the needs of our students, faculty, staff, and partners we serve. Time Commitment: mid June to early September 2025, approximately 10 hours/week, and 40 hours/week during the fair from August 21 - September 1, 2025. Must be available to work most days of the fair, including evenings and weekends.This is a hybrid position that can rotate between at home, office and fairgrounds locations depending on work needs of the week. Campus onsite location: West Bank Office Bldg, 1300 S. 2nd Street, Minneapolis, MN 55454.

The Driven to Discover ("D2D") Research Facility at the State Fair brings researchers and the Minnesota community together. D2D provides turn-key space for studies looking to recruit and collect data for their minimal-risk human subjects' projects. This unique, one-of-a-kind opportunity serves as a way to build a culture of research across Minnesota and showcase the innovative work being done across the state.

Job Responsibilities:

Coordination (35%)

  • Determine and meet supply, equipment & logistical needs of individual researchers
  • Assist with coordination of open houses, staff training sessions & other meetings
  • Assist with set-up/take-down of D2D building (e.g., arrange mobile partitions & furniture, stock supplies, etc.)
  • Provide oversight of D2D building and assist researchers during the fair

Purchasing (30%)

  • Purchase supplies (t-shirts, fair tickets, signage, cleaning supplies, etc.)
  • Prepare order forms, invoices, requisitions & expense reimbursements according to UMN Internal Service Organization procedures
  • Maintain clear documentation of all purchases/rentals
  • Work with accounting department to develop researcher invoicing

Communications (25%)

  • Prepare promotional materials (signs, press releases, newsletter articles, etc.) and distribute to social media sites, special interest newsletters and other media channels
  • Maintain communications with researchers, vendors, researchers, fair personnel, D2D accountants & other UMN personnel
  • Work with D2D Manager and IT to update D2D website

Other (10%)

  • Help supervise two temp/casual workers
  • Manage production of D2D t-shirt and market to researchers
  • Assist D2D Manager with other D2D-related tasks, as necessary
Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability with organizational, planning, and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of detail-orientation.
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a research environment.
  • Marketing & promotions experience, including on social media.
  • Experience with event planning.
  • Experience with UMN purchasing procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of UMN organizational structure and operations.
  • Previous attendance at the Minnesota State Fair.

Pay and Benefits

Pay: $27.00 per hour
