About the Job

This position is in a laboratory involved in understanding neuronal circuits in health and disease, using electrophysiology, optogenetics, transgenic animals, and mouse models. The candidate will advance work using voltage imaging to monitor and better understand seizure networks. Weekend and evening work may be required.

80% - Animal stereotaxic surgeries and associated data collection and analysis.
Training will be provided in stereotaxic surgeries, but candidate should have experience with the intrahippocampal kainate model of epilepsy, including how to monitor and analyze hippocampal LFP recordings for seizure events.

10% - Tissue processing, including tissue harvest, tissue sectioning, mounting, and immunocytochemistry.
The candidate should have experience with mouse brain extraction, brain sectioning and mounting, and basic microscopy skills.

10% - Additional support, including tasks such as assisting with mouse colony management, including pairing, tail collection, weaning, euthanasia; laboratory upkeep and maintaining laboratory supplies, including making solutions, and ordering of supplies.

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be included in the application materials

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience or a combination of related education and relevant work experience to total 4 years.
Previous lab experience, including experience with the intrahippocampal kainate mouse model of temporal lobe epilepsy, including seizure analysis, and tissue processing.

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous lab experience with stereotaxic surgeries.
Demonstrated excellent communication skills; proven time management and ability to multi-task; strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work as an effective member of a team; ability to tackle challenging endeavors with perseverance, creativity, and excellent record keeping.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20.00 per hour - $23.15 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
