About the Job

Job Responsibilities:

80% Research work:
Design, plan, oversee, implement, and evaluate complex, multi-faceted research projects based on in-depth subject matter knowledge in consultation with the PI, collaborators, and other lab members. Formulate and implement short-and long-range research goals. Develop and optimize research protocols. Conduct and train others in behavioral testing and collecting behavior/electrophysiology data, neuroimaging data and histological data. Oversees surgeries and scans including; scheduling and coordinating with Research Animal Resources, ensuring that all records are obtained and meet IACUC standards, acting as safety officer, scrubbing in and conducting surgery, ensuring healthy recovery post-op, and handling emergencies in coordination with RAR. Maintain detailed records of all experiments and procedures in lab notebooks as well as in online databases and project management tools. Develop python- and Matlab- based experimental tasks, and conduct data analysis using Matlab. Analyze collected data, review relevant scientific literature, and summarize findings periodically in meetings and in writing, including manuscripts for publication.

20% General laboratory management:
Work with the PI and staff to ensure compliance with university and federal safety regulations. Investigate and evaluate vendors and products, supervise ordering and maintenance of inventory, and recordkeeping. Write and maintain standard operating procedures for NHP training and handling. Ensure lab users are compliant with safety regulations and lab protocols are followed. Maintain and adapt laboratory equipment, keep records of protocols and standard operating procedures. Supervise and train other laboratory members, including staff and students.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

PhD in Neuroscience or related field with one or more years of research training
Strong programming, statistical analysis and math background.
Experience working with NHP data.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $80,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
