Position Summary:
Reporting to the Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department Chair, the
Assistant Director of MS Programs serves as the administrative director of the
BME (MS) Graduate Program. This position involves graduate admissions,
curriculum coordination, advising students, addressing academic administrative
functions, and teaching classes.

The incumbent works with the department Associate Chairs and BME Programs
Director on issues relating to overall department goals and initiatives.

Essential Functions:
-
Responsible for maintaining the
graduate program including graduate admissions, specifying course offerings,
and advising of students.
- Responsible for graduate course
scheduling based on the assessment of student enrollment needs and faculty
input.
- Manages course offerings to meet
graduate enrollment targets.
- Identifies unmet teaching and
student advising needs, formulates solutions and reports them to the
Department Chair.
- Administration of graduate student
requirements including theses and graduate certifications.
- Meets regularly with the Associate
Chair, BME Programs Director and keeps informed of department issues relating
to the Graduate program.
- Advises identified BS-Graduate
students and administers the program requirements.
- Serves as Graduate Co-Op Advisor.
Help to build and maintain relationships with industry partners who are
hiring MS students.
- Assists the BME Programs director
with Graduate program assessment processes including the collection of
assessment data, analysis of data and preparation of assessment and
accreditation documents.
- Acts as the department's research
track advisor and assists with the administration of the UG thesis requirements
as this is like the advisement of MS thesis students.
- Instruction of courses as assigned
by the Department Chair. Instructional duties will be within the maximum
allowable contact hours for this position.
- Recommends policies, practices, and
procedures that have a significant impact on the program. Develops strategic
plans to support profit and growth.

Additional Functions:
-
Administrative chair of the department awards committee.
- Participates in meetings
of the Industrial Advisory Board.
- Organizes Graduate
student feedback sessions.
- Helps program adjunct
faculty members with instructional needs and questions.
- Serves on the BME
graduate curriculum committee.
- The department liaison
with the Office of Graduate Studies and Office of International Students is
necessary.
- Coordinates and
participates in recruitment events.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
-
MS degree in biomedical engineering or closely related field; or
equivalent.
- Proficient written and
verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated proactive
approaches to problem-solving with strong judgment and decision-making
capability.
- At least five to seven
years previous experience working in an academic environment.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
-
PhD degree in biomedical engineering or
closely related field; or equivalent. Exceptional attention to detail and
accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills
that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly.

- Highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships
with stakeholders, including staff, board members and external partners.

- Polished and professional demeanor in dealing with all situations.
- Ability to
multitask.
- Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be
independently effective.
