Job Summary: The Executive Director of the HACC Learning Commons and Library leads the HACC Library, Learning Commons Director, Director of Library Technical Services, Faculty Chair for the Library, Learning Commons Coordinator and oversees operations on all campus and virtual services. The Executive Director is responsible for the allocation of resources at campus learning commons, technical services, and library faculty. The person is responsible for the recruitment and hiring of all Faculty Librarians and reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Workforce Development

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from American Library Association accredited program and 5 years experience, including 3 years of supervisory experience.*

*Or a combination of experience and education sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Job Specific Task List:



  • Recruits, hires, and evaluates full-time faculty in Library and Instructional Resources (LIR) Department in collaboration with Faculty Chair and team members
  • Works closely with the Learning Commons Director, Director of Library Technical Services, Faculty Chair for the Librarians and Coordinator for Learning Commons and Library Web Services on setting priorities for the HACC Libraries academic functions (collection development and instruction) and coordinates department-wide projects with faculty and staff
  • Supervises and evaluates Learning Commons Director, Library Technical Services, Faculty Chair and Coordinator for Learning Commons and Library Web Services. Works with Directors on staffing, space needs, and budget across the college
  • Works with Office of Institutional Effectiveness on Assessment of Library resources and services
  • Works with central college departments/functions to facilitate library functions across the college
  • Leads Library Faculty and Staff to develop and implement strategic planning for the LIR Department and Learning Commons
  • Represents the HACC LIR Department and Learning Commons to external organizations
  • Represents the HACC LIR Department on Academic Council
  • Provides leadership and direction to ensure availability, functionality, and usability of library, resources, and services at all campus library locations, and as part of the collegewide learning commons function; responsible for the maintenance, and tracking of library resources in collaboration with library faculty and staff; ensures that library services, resources, and spaces are optimized to support student success
  • Manages the performance of collegewide library public service staff to ensure delivery of high quality work products according to scope, time, and budget; supervises, hires, schedules, trains, and evaluates employees
  • Regularly assesses whether library spaces, systems, and processes are accessible and working as planned to facilitate a positive student experience and support curriculum, in collaboration with library faculty and leadership; anticipates changing needs and performs assessments to enhance services; plans and leads projects to meet goals and objectives
  • Ensure all Library and Learning Services direct reports are engaged within the preparation and planning of the annual budgeting processes

  • Oversees assigned departments and provides leadership and direction, ensures accountability for operations and staffing. Supervises employees and staffing assignments to ensure accessibility to students and staff for the library and learning commons locations. Use data to assess departmental policies, procedures, and processes to inform further development, enhancements, or to sustain current operations. Collaborate with stakeholders to develop projects, business plans, budgets, and priorities to meet goals and objectives for assigned units. - (Essential)
