Vessel Operations Manager - Long Beach, CA

The Vessel Operations Manager supervises all departmental personnel and is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the daily vessel cargo handling operations and associated administrative functions to meet customer standards and maximize profits. Participates in the discipline and employment processes by making decisions to hire, promote/demote, and terminate employment.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the supervision of subordinate personnel to ensure that all work is accomplished consistently with organizational requirements.
• Conduct employee training sessions on subjects such as hazardous material handling, employee orientations, quality improvements, and computer usage.
• Participate in the settlement of grievances.
• Implement schedule and policy changes.
• Ensure that continuous improvement is being made with regard to policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
• Monitor operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, union contracts, and government regulations.
• Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.
• Monitor spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets.
• Conduct investigations to determine causes of accidents and to improve safety procedures.
• Analyze expenditures and other financial information to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits and improving services.
• Set operations policies and standards, including determining safety procedures.
• All other duties as assigned.
