Salary Range Starting At: $21.39/per hour

Job Description:

As the kitchen supervisor, you will prepare and serve meals for Center residents as directed; clean up after meals.

What You Will Do:



  • Supervise and train your staff. Morning and evening cooks.
  • Prepares and serves nutritionally balanced meals for Center residents by following menus.
  • Maximizes use of donated food in meal preparation.
  • Ensures that Intake staff has access to sack lunches and snacks for residents before the end of his/her shift. Food items for residents should be taken to the Intake area or put in the Staff Lounge.
  • Observers generally accept hygiene practices.
  • Directs concerns regarding residents to the Director only; keeps information about residents of the Center and their contact with the Center confidential;
  • Develops a cleaning checklist that outlines how to maintain a hygienic commercial kitchen. (daily, weekly, monthly)
  • Charts a specific time each day to ensure there is no gap in cleanliness.
  • Ensures that in-depth cleaning is performed weekly to all areas of the kitchen.
  • Assists with all volunteer events hosted at the Center.
  • Provides or arranges appropriate training and background checks for volunteers.
  • Reviews written reports and logs volunteer hours.
  • Assesses volunteer skills to match each volunteer with the right duties.
  • Prepares updated files on each volunteer, including contact info and availability.
  • Obtains donations from prospective donors.
  • Manage donor files, including updating and editing records and reports

Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: High School Diploma, Experience in Residential Kitchens.

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience High School Diploma or equivalent; experience as a cook in a residential or commercial setting; ability to relate positively to persons experiencing crisis.

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe from Harm training within the first 30 days of employment.

Skills/Abilities:



  • Able to speak, write, and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
  • ServeSafe Trained

Physical Requirements Include:



  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds
  • May require bending, squatting, walking.
  • May require standing for extended


Travel: Travel to pick up donations.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a residential setting environment; "may require some weekend and evening work".
