Primary Purpose of Position
Provide cleaning services for areas within Academic, Sporting and Event affiliated facilities of the University which consists of more than three million square feet.

Provide setup and breakdown of all types of equipment and apparatuses used by sports programs and special events.

Demonstrates a variety of skills, in multiple trades, to maintain facilities for accommodation of various uses including academics, sporting events, special events and use by the public.

Maintain a campus environment which is functional, attractive, safe, and conducive to a cost-effective manner.

Personnel are required to train to their potential in order to achieve the most effective development methodology to obtain the greatest output from all resources.
Minimum Qualifications
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Special certification may be required for some of these positions.-

Essential Job Functions
If employee is assigned to work in a designated security sensitive area, employee is required to undergo an extensive background check under the administration of the ASU Police Department and complete a Security Awareness Training as required.

Floor Maintenance which consists, at a minimum, of daily sweeping, wet mopping, periodic spray-buffing and high speed burnishing, scheduled stripping and refinishing of resilient floors.

Restroom Sanitation which consists of, at a minimum, daily sweeping, mopping, cleaning mirrors, spot cleaning walls and stall partitions, applying disinfectant cleaners. Check and refill towel, soap, deodorant and tissue containers. Periodic scrubbing of all surfaces with hard brushes and floor scrubber. Scrubbing of fixture surfaces with hand pad and bowl cleaners.

Dusting, polishing and Spot cleaning which consists of, at a minimum, daily cleaning of all furniture including desks, chairs, bookshelves, filing cabinets, window sills and ledges, stair railings, etc. Cleaning of walls, boards, light fixtures, air handling units, blinds, ceilings and interior/exterior glass.

Vacuuming and Spot cleaning of carpeted floors which includes determining chemical and/or cleaner to be used for particular spots / spills.

Trash and debris which consists of, at a minimum, removal of trash, recycling and other foreign matter from trash containers and building surfaces. Replacement of trash can liners as needed. Removal of trash, snow and other debris from entrances, steps and sidewalks.

Chemicals, Supplies, and Equipment involves the proper use of various types of chemicals including detergents, disinfectants, finishes, etc., associated with housekeeping duties. Must understand and follow manufacturer's label instructions on application, dilution rates, protective gear, safety precautions and proper storage of all chemicals used. Must understand and institute set routines and procedures established for chemical use. Keep housekeeping closets clean with supplies stored neatly and in an accessible order. Supply inventory must be maintained at a proper level for availability. Must understand and institute set guidelines of equipment to insure the right type of equipment or machine is used for required work.

Security consists of responsibility for keys that give access to assigned areas. Unlocking and locking of building doors at designated (scheduled) times is required.

Valid driver's license and knowledge, skills and abilities to operate university vehicles, as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
Must be physically able to lift moderately heavy materials, equipment and supplies on a daily basis.
Ability to work steadily, periodically in extreme temperatures for duration of shift.
Must be able to complete work repair requests and requisition forms.
Must have full use of all five senses.
Good communication skills and abilities when dealing with faculty, staff and students, thus fostering good relations with the public and building occupants.
Ability to work with cleaning chemicals.
Ability to work all academic building, sporting facilities and other campus event venues, as assigned, including reassignment of supervisor based on business/operational needs.
Preferred Qualifications
-Cleaning experience in an industrial setting.

-Microfiber and green cleaning experience.

-Ability to work within team and individual settings.

-Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

-Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work.

-Ability to attain any certifications required in some areas.

Technical Knowledge: Cleans the interior and exterior of buildings, using the appropriate cleaning solutions. Operates standard commercial floor equipment. Helps service equipment to keep it functioning properly and efficiently. Uses hot water carpet extractors to clean carpet in all academic buildings. Refinishes all tile and terrazzo floors by minor cleaning and spray buffing/waxing or stripping/waxing. Performs exterior window cleaning using heavy cleaning equipment.

Safety & Health Compliance: Recognizes and follows dispenser directions to properly mix cleaning chemicals.

2ND SHIFT WORK HOURS:

8-hour workday schedule with primary hours within the following time frame: 3:00 pm - 12:00 midnight; Monday through Friday.

Weekend work and hours other than normal schedule may be required to accomplish assigned duties. Position is subject to call in, call back or stay over on off schedule hours and weekends should emergencies occur. This position will require weekend work for sporting events and other campus events. This position is also expected to work, as needed, in the event of staffing shortages, sporting events and/or other events on campus that require Building Environmental Service needs. Supervisor assignment may be adjusted based on business/operational need.

Designated as MANDATORY, this position is expected to be available for work during University emergencies, closings and adverse weather conditions.

Physical Demands of Position
Physical efforts include lifting and moving all types of tables, chairs, chemicals and supplies, furniture, trash and debris including snow and ice, and all cleaning equipment as required. Work can involve climbing ladders. At times, must be able to lift 50-100 pounds. Will need to be able to maneuver and set up heavy athletic equipment (ie: basketball goals, floor covers, volley ball / badminton equipment).
