A Charge Nurse for SIU School of Medicine and SIU HealthCare, collectively known as SIU Medicine, will provide direct and/or indirect patient care as a registered professional nurse to the full scope of nursing in accordance with the Illinois Nursing Practice Act. The position will incorporate caring for all patients through nursing standards recognized by SIU and requires a skill level for which a registered professional nurse is properly trained.

Examples of Duties

Administrative Duties 50% 1. Supervise clinical staff to ensure that the patient care delivered benefits the patient and follows policies and procedures of SCI and SIU Medicine. 2. Organizes clinic patient flow and revises as necessary to maximize physician productivity and minimize patient wait times. 3. Ensures proper licensure and certifications of all staff members. 4. Serves as a resource to departmental staff. 5. Performs employee annual and probationary evaluations. Provides constructive feedback and disciplinary action for clinic staff. 6. Responsible for completion of clinic staff daily/monthly assignment schedule, including assignment of nursing duties in other divisions to cover absences as necessary. Approves vacation, sick, and/or comp time. 7. Participates in the interview process and recommends hiring of clinic personnel. Coordinates and oversees orientation and training for new personnel and current staff. 8. Participates in the development, implementation, updating and maintains nursing policies, procedures, standards of care and quality assurance programs. 9. Maintains or delegates inventory of adequate supplies necessary for daily clinic activities and makes recommendations for equipment, commodities, and non-routine supplies 10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Credentials to be Verified by Placement Officer
- Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois.
- Three years of work experience as a Registered Professional Nurse or 2 years work experience as a Registered Professional Nurse with 1 year of supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA's)
