Position Summary
The Director of Student Support and Military Connected Success is a collaborative, strategic, and student-centered leader. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs, this position leads the university's emerging strategy focused on the success, persistence, engagement, and graduation of veterans, military affiliated students, active-duty service members, reservists, National Guard members, and military connected families.
This role has been established as part of a broader institutional commitment to strengthening military connected student success and developing coordinated systems that reduce barriers to enrollment, persistence, and degree completion. The Director works across academic and administrative units to build partnerships, improve institutional navigation, and support the development of a more integrated, student-centered model for military connected student support at Temple.
In addition to leading military connected student success initiatives, the Director supports broader divisional efforts related to student persistence, transition support, and coordinated student success strategies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Details

Required Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree
* At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, student affairs, enrollment management, veterans services, academic advising, student support services, or a related field.
* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience
* Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, Public Administration, Social Work, or related field.
* Experience working with veteran or military connected students in higher education.
* Knowledge of GI Bill programs, military tuition assistance, transfer pathways, and related regulations.
* Experience with student information systems, CRM platforms, advising technologies, or case management systems.
* Experience with assessment, reporting, and strategic planning initiatives.
Required Skills and Abilities
* Demonstrated experience supporting students through complex institutional systems and navigating cross functional partnerships.
* Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
* Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities with sound judgment and attention to detail.
Essential Functions
-Military Connected Student Success Strategy-
* Leads institutional initiatives that support the recruitment, transition, persistence, engagement, and graduation of military connected students.
* Develops and implements support strategies responsive to adult learners, transfer students, commuters, online learners, students balancing work and family responsibilities, and students transitioning from military service to higher education.
* Cultivates a welcoming and connected campus environment for military affiliated students through programming, outreach, peer engagement, and student support initiatives.
* Partners with Enrollment Management to support military connected recruitment strategies, transfer pathways, re-enrollment efforts, and outreach initiatives.
* Collaborates with academic advising units, colleges, schools, and the Registrar to strengthen degree progress support, transfer credit evaluation, prior learning recognition, and pathways to degree completion.
-Student Support and Institutional Navigation-
* Assists students in navigating university systems, policies, resources, and processes impacting academic progress and student success.
* Supports coordinated efforts that reduce barriers related to enrollment, registration, financial challenges, transition concerns, and student engagement.
* Partners closely with the Temple University CARE Team, academic support offices, and the Temple University Essential Needs Hub to ensure students are connected to appropriate resources and support services.
* Collaborates with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs partners to strengthen coordinated student support efforts across the university.
-Strategic Partnerships and Institutional Collaboration-
* Serves as a divisional lead on military connected student success initiatives and collaborate regularly with senior university leadership, Enrollment Management, Undergraduate Studies, Institutional Research, and campus partners.
* Develops partnerships with military education partners, veteran service organizations, alumni, employers, and community organizations that support student success and career readiness.
* Represents Temple University in local, regional, and national conversations related to military connected student success and student support initiatives.
* Compliance and Operations
* Provides oversight and coordination related to military educational benefits and institutional compliance with applicable federal, state, and university regulations.
* Partners with university stakeholders to maintain accurate certification processes, reporting standards, and audit readiness associated with military education benefits.
* Coordinates communications and educational materials related to military connected student support services and processes.
* Supports operational planning, assessment efforts, reporting processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
-Data, Assessment, and Strategic Initiatives-
* Develops and monitors key performance indicators related to military connected student persistence, retention, engagement, graduation outcomes, and utilization of support services.
* Uses student feedback, institutional data, and national best practices to recommend improvements and inform decision making.
* Prepares reports and strategic recommendations for divisional and university leadership.
* Benchmarks institutional practices against peer and aspirational institutions to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
-Supervision and Administrative Responsibilities -
* Supervises professional staff, graduate externs, student employees, or interns as assigned.
* Manages budgets, administrative processes, and communications related to assigned initiatives and programs.
