Job Summary: The Director, Tax Operations ("Director") is responsible for a wide range of functions and responsibilities, all serving to oversee, manage, innovate, introduce and progress the operations and development of the Geography's Tax Practice, both as a whole and for the professionals within the Practice. The ability to perform these duties in a real-time environment, to monitor and assess on a continuous basis in the most optimal manner in which to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of all the geography's resources and practices. Job Duties:
- Aids Managing Partner (MP) with long-term and day-to-day operations of the Geography
- Assists the MP (and Market Managing Partners (MMPs)) with formal and informal succession planning of the Geography to ensure smooth transition of roles within the geography and local departments with limited to no disruption to operations or exceptional client service, as well as promoting career advancement.
- Serves as a designee by the MP to review and assess the details of any issues that arise in an office to provide the MP with the pertinent and relevant facts so that the MP can make the most informed decision with real time information
- Builds relationships and trust with MMPs and their office leaders
- Works as liaison with FP&A management teams, as needed
- Works as liaison between FP&A and local offices on initiatives and training, including identification of additional local office training needs
- Assists with continuation and completion of project close process; will leverage knowledge and relationships with local office personnel to follow up directly with individuals as needed to ensure a timely project close and renewal process
- Assists as a resource to local offices for implementation of Billing Playbook and strategies to help decrease DSO
- Assists in the budget process for the Geography's Financial Statements, as well as analyze the Monthly (or Quarterly, Year-to-date, etc.) operating results
- Prepares brief write-ups (Quasi-MD&A)/ analysis comparing the Monthly, Quarterly and YTD results to budget and to prior year, noting the significant fluctuations, if any; investigates any matter that appears to be unusual or isn't easily identifiable by maintaining a monthly summary
- Develops benchmarks and consistent analysis for offices to use when assessing client portfolios
- Supports the implementation of standardized processes and methodology throughout the geography
- Remains current on national firm standards, processes, and initiatives
- Evaluates current processes and state of implementation of national firm standards within each office
- Implements a plan for each office to adopt firm standards, including identification of training needs and coordination of those training sessions in conjunction with National Tax
- Follows up on consistency of process implementation and application and inform MMPs on status
- Coordinates with the Total Tax Transformation Leader for each office in the geography to ensure standardization and accountability throughout the geography; assists MMPs with the leader selection process, works with selected leaders to ensure they understand their goals, and helps identify support needed in order to attain those goals
- Coordinates and monitors the general development needs for Geography's Offices
- Supports the Resource Management strategy by providing MP with top level analysis of productivity by Office
- Advises and supports the integration team in relation to expansion offices in the Geography
- Works with P&C and local Management teams on the following:
- Identifies best practices and policies within each office as it relates to employee satisfaction
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversees operational Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates as assigned
- Acts as a Career Advisor as assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Education:
- Bachelor's degree, focus in Accounting, or Finance, required; OR High School Diploma/GED and eight (8) or more years of experience at a large public accounting firm, required
Experience:
- Experience in project management, including developing and managing project timelines, prioritizing, and assigning projects and assessing progress, required
- Six (6) or more years of experience at a large public accounting firm, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, preferred
- Experience in a professional services firm, specifically public accounting, preferred
License/Certifications:
- CPA, preferred
- PMP, preferred
Software:
- Proficient in the use of Windows and Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, required
