Ameresco is seeking a Facilities Manager in Washington, DC to oversee operations, maintenance, and performance of central utility plant and facility systems supporting a secure federal campus. This role manages day-to-day operations of boiler and chiller plants, supervises technical staff and subcontractors, ensures compliance with contract requirements, and serves as the primary on-site point of contact for the customer.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of facility operations and maintenance, with primary responsibility for boiler plants, chiller plants, steam systems, chilled water systems, and supporting MEP infrastructure.

  • Serve as the principal on-site representative to the customer, ensuring clear communication, timely issue resolution, and delivery of required operational reports.

  • Ensure compliance with all contractual obligations, performance standards, safety requirements, and applicable federal regulations.

  • Lead, supervise, and develop site personnel, including direct reports and subcontractors; manage staffing levels, schedules, training, and performance.

  • Develop and execute preventive and corrective maintenance programs to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of facilities and equipment.

  • Manage operating budgets, forecasting, procurement, and cost controls in accordance with contract and company requirements.

  • Coordinate closely with Ameresco project management, engineering, safety, and customer support teams.

  • Oversee work order management, task orders, and service requests using CMMS and customer systems.

  • Support proposal development by providing technical input, scopes of work, and cost information related to facilities operations, as required.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, site-specific safety plans, and Ameresco environmental, health, and safety standards.

  • Maintain accurate documentation, records, and reporting required by the customer and contract.

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with federal agency personnel and key stakeholders.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in operations and maintenance supporting central plants or similar systems.

  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.

  • Ability to review confidential US security information.

  • Valid driver's license in good standing.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience operating and managing large-scale boiler and chiller plants, preferably within:

    • Federal or military facilities

    • Research laboratories

    • Hospitals or healthcare campuses

    • Higher-education or institutional campuses

  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

  • Demonstrated success developing and implementing complex preventive maintenance programs.

  • Knowledge of federal contracting environments, including familiarity with FAR regulations, contract administration, and performance-based contracts.

  • Experience supporting energy efficiency initiatives or performance improvement projects.

  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to manage workforce performance, safety culture, and employee morale.

  • Professional certifications or licenses (PE, CFM, or similar) are a plus but not required.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $111,000-$161,500 (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role. Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location.
