Position Overview

The Credentialing Specialist is responsible for coordinating and facilitating all aspects of provider credentialing, including initial appointments, reappointments, credential audits, and clinical privileging for Medical Staff, Allied Health Professionals, and other providers in accordance with established policies, procedures, and hospital bylaws. This role utilizes credentialing software applications to perform and monitor credentialing and background verification processes while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and data integrity. The Credentialing Specialist maintains knowledge of accrediting and regulatory agency requirements, as well as applicable laws and regulations related to credentialing. This position is fully onsite and remote work is not available.

Job Responsibilities




  • Coordinate provider credentialing and recredentialing processes in compliance with organizational policies and hospital bylaws



  • Perform credential audits and maintain accurate provider credential files and documentation



  • Process clinical privileging applications for Medical Staff, Allied Health Professionals, and other providers



  • Utilize credentialing software systems to track, monitor, and maintain credentialing activities



  • Conduct background checks, license verifications, and other required credentialing validations



  • Ensure compliance with accrediting agencies, regulatory standards, and applicable laws related to credentialing



  • Maintain accurate records and ensure data integrity within credentialing systems



  • Communicate with providers, internal departments, and external agencies regarding credentialing requirements and status updates



  • Support audits and accreditation reviews by preparing and maintaining required documentation



  • Identify and resolve credentialing discrepancies or incomplete documentation in a timely manner




Job Requirements




  • Knowledge of provider credentialing, privileging, and recredentialing processes



  • Experience performing audits and maintaining detailed documentation



  • Familiarity with credentialing software applications and database management



  • Understanding of accrediting and regulatory agency standards related to healthcare credentialing



  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail



  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately



  • Effective written and verbal communication skills



  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment



  • Proficiency with standard office software and computer systems



  • Ability to work onsite as required




Education




  • High school diploma or equivalent required



  • Additional education or certification related to healthcare administration or credentialing preferred




Work Experience




  • Previous experience in healthcare credentialing, medical staff services, or a related administrative role preferred



  • Experience conducting audits or compliance-related activities preferred
