Position Overview

The MRI Technologist performs diagnostic MRI procedures for infant, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. This role requires strong technical knowledge of magnetic resonance imaging principles, accurate equipment operation, sound clinical judgment, and adherence to patient safety, infection control, and MRI screening protocols.

Job Responsibilities




  • Perform diagnostic MRI studies as requested and in accordance with established protocols.



  • Operate MRI equipment, coils, and related imaging equipment accurately and safely.



  • Evaluate image quality and ensure proper MRI positioning and coil selection based on procedure guidelines.



  • Use RIS to enter and update patient demographics, charges, and other required information.



  • Use PACS for image processing, image review, protocol selection, and troubleshooting.



  • Follow MRI magnet safety procedures for patients, staff, and other personnel using appropriate screening techniques.



  • Administer MRI procedures and contrast media according to prescribed techniques.



  • Recognize emergency situations, including contrast media reactions, and take appropriate action.



  • Follow infection control practices in accordance with Universal Precautions.



  • Maintain required continuing education credits in Radiologic Technology.




Job Requirements




  • Minimum A.A.S. degree in Radiologic Technology.



  • Completion of an AMA-approved 2-year Radiologic Technology program.



  • Active New York State license required.



  • Certification as a radiologic, nuclear medicine, or ultrasound technologist required.



  • Formal MRI-specific training preferred.



  • BLS certification through AHA or RQI required.



  • Previous experience in diagnostic radiology required.



  • 1-2 years of experience in related radiology fields, including MRI experience, preferred.



  • Must maintain mandatory continuing education credits, including 12 CECs per year in Radiologic Technology.



  • Ability to provide care to infant, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.



  • Strong knowledge of MRI safety, contrast media administration, RIS, and PACS.




Work Experience




  • Previous diagnostic radiology experience required.



  • Prior MRI experience preferred.

Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)




  • Schedule: Day shifts, Monday through Friday, with every other Saturday required.



  • Shift structure: Two 12-hour shifts and one to two 8-hour shifts per week.
