Radiographer NDT Level I & II

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Position produces radiographs of castings from PCC Schlosser techniques for the evaluation of casting quality.

This role will be filled for the purpose into the Level 2 Radiographer role.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Radiographer 1):

1. X-ray castings according to part specific techniques and verify radiographs conform to appropriate specification. This process includes but is not limited to the following:
2. Verify correct part is with the paperwork (lot number and serial numbers match).
3. Assure castings are in proper department and at the proper operation.
4. Determine if parts need 100%, Pre-X, weld areas, or ground areas to be shot.
5. Verify techniques are approved by proper authorities.
6. Complete film order forms; load film cassettes with proper film load; unload film cassettes and run film through film processor; maintain processor system and chemicals.
7. Develop shooting techniques for final X-ray and Weld Areas to include the creation of fixtures, setup photographs and clear and concise instructions to document the procedure.
8. Regularly conducts more than one radiographic examination concurrently
9. Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly calibrations and process controls.
10. Maintain penetrameters, blocks, fixtures, cassettes, lead screens, nameplates, and lead backups as necessary to ensure quality radiographs.
11. Perform preventive and routine maintenance on X-ray equipment.
12. Completes logs and records any modifications to the radiographic technique.
13. Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

1. Must complete or show documentation of 40 hours of classroom training and 400 hours of X-ray experience (200 hours actual hands on experience).
2. Must complete Level I Certification and recertify every three years.
3. Ability to understand and apply general and complex procedures found in Work Instructions, Quality Manuals and other technical material.
4. Knowledge of the physics of X-ray radiation and safe operation of X-ray equipment.
5. Knowledge of and ability to adhere to all radiation safety procedures.
6. Must have strong math skills and a working knowledge of algebra.
7. Knowledge of penetrant, chem.-mill, and finishing processes used in the manufacture of castings.
8. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
9. Familiarity with customer material specifications and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
10. Ability to work varying shifts and overtime as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED. Previous radiographic experience and knowledge of basic radiographic techniques preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The ability to sit, stand, possess vision requirements to use radiographic equipment and to pass a depth perception and color vision test. Ability to exert up to seventy pounds of force to move objects (lift 35lbs). Ability to grasp and manipulate /set-up product as necessary to adhere to the required radiographic technique set-up. Ability to work in conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and varying temperatures.

Radiographer Level 2

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Position evaluates radiographs of castings according to PCC Schlosser work instructions and dispositions castings as either acceptable, repair, or scrap.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Evaluate, disposition and document the radiographic quality of PCC Schlosser castings. This process includes but is not limited to the following:
2. Assure castings are in proper department and at the proper operation.
3. Verify work instructions are approved by proper authorities.
4. Verify that the correct part has been radiographed (lot number and serial numbers match paperwork and film / image).
5. Assure castings were radiographed according to the proper work instruction and that the correct operation has been performed (i.e. 100%, Pre-X, Weld Areas, or Ground Areas).
6. Review weld maps to ensure all welds have been covered radiographically.
7. Detect, identify, evaluate and disposition casting discontinuities and artifacts per NDT 300, NDT 400 & NDT 500 or appropriate addendum and part specific work instruction.
8. Defect locate and mark casting for repair.
9. Complete preliminary and final reports using the appropriate database codes.
10. Complete the appropriate logs including Film File Log, if necessary.
11. Must be capable of performing all Level I responsibilities as required.
12. Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly calibrations and process controls per NDT 350, NDT 400 & NDT 500.
13. Perform preventive and routine maintenance on X-ray equipment.
14. Responsible for safe work practices by adhering to safety rules, safely operating all equipment and tools, identifying and reporting any safety problems.
15. Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

1. Must show documentation of 120 hours of classroom training in Radiography (Film & Digital) and 1000 hours of X-ray experience (600 hours actual interpretation experience).
2. Must hold a current Level II Certification and recertify every five years.
3. Ability to understand and apply general and complex procedures found in Work Instructions, Quality Manuals and other technical material. Ability to read and interpret specifications on drawings and blueprints preferred.
4. Thorough understanding of casting processes, metallurgy, and the formation of discontinuities.
5. Must have strong math skills and a working knowledge of Algebra.
6. Must have the ability to conceptualize and extrapolate from a 2D-film environment to a 3D casting.
7. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
8. Familiarity with customer material specifications and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
9. Ability to work varying shifts and overtime as needed.
