SUMMARY:
Reports to Director, Specialty Pharmacy Services or Manager, Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Services. Responsible for the coordination of specialty pharmacy programs or ambulatory clinical pharmacy programs including, but not limited to, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacotherapeutics, pharmaceutical care, and drug information services. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary care team to monitor, assess, recommend changes to, and optimize medication use in areas of therapeutic specialization. Responsible for the development of therapeutic drug policy. Responsible for the implementation of corrective strategies necessary to contain drug costs. Responsible for continuous quality improvement activities of pharmacy clinical services. Participates in the development and implementation of pharmacy services policies, procedures, and budgets as they pertain to specialty pharmacy or ambulatory clinical practice setting. Participates in the development of future goals and objectives for specialty pharmacy or ambulatory clinical practice in concert with Brown University Health's strategic plan. Leads and/or coordinates clinical, regulatory, accreditation and academic programs across affiliates and through external collaborations. Contributes to strategic planning for enhancement and expansion of clinical pharmacy services. Implements and interprets relevant pharmacy policies, procedures, and standards of practice. Reviews and analyzes services provided. Develops and implements changes to increase efficiency and level of pharmacy services.Develops, implements, and integrates patient-focused clinical care services in collaboration with pharmacy managers and key constituents. Monitors drug and therapeutic class reviews needed to optimize drug use and maintain compliance with clinical medication use guidelines. Coaches professional staff on pharmaceutical care and pharmacoeconomic principles to enhance safe and cost-effective medication use. Provides insight to the development of pharmacy capital and operating budgets as they pertain to areas of responsibility.Responsible for ensuring that ambulatory clinical pharmacy services and specialty pharmacy programs support established standards of care, meet or exceed patient care quality standards, and consider the aging processes and human developmental stages (neonate, child, adolescent, adult, geriatric) of patient populations served. Participates in the yearly performance appraisal process for clinical team members.Maintains computerized systems, software programs, and specialized equipment and technologies utilized in drug information and evaluation processes. Coordinates medication use quality improvement programs and related database maintenance including, but not limited to, Adverse Drug Reaction Reporting, Pharmacist Clinical Interventions, and Medication Use Evaluations. Develops tools and standards to establish and improve competency levels of professional staff in areas of therapeutic specialization. Provides guidance and direction to clinical pharmacy personnel, in collaboration with Manager, Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Services and/or Director, Specialty Pharmacy Services.Oversees orientation of new employees, in-service training, and continuing education programs. Presents formal lectures to pharmacists, other health professionals and the lay public as assigned.Provides effective and timely communication of drug information to staff, management, and key stakeholders. Ensures that clinical decisions affecting patients are made by qualified clinicians and that these clinicians are accountable to the organization for these decisions.Approves the clinical content of the specialty drug treatment management software utilized byspan lang=X-NONE Brown University Health Pharmacy, in conjunction with the Clinical Advisory Committee (CAC). Provides supervision to the continuous quality improvement activities of the SDPMP that are clinical in nature, including approving, monitoring, and providing guidance for quality improvement projects that are clinical in nature. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE:Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy. Advanced study in pharmacy or healthcare related field or a Master's degree preferred.107302252Prior to start date, possesses current unrestricted licensure as a licensed pharmacist or as a licensed 90-day temporary pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island. Obtains full licensure prior to expiration of 90-day temporary pharmacist license, then possesses and maintains current unrestricted licensure as licensed pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island.EXPERIENCEuccessful completion of a Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1) or 2 (PGY-2) Residency from an accredited program in area of specialty and board certification in area of specialty or Pharmacotherapy required. Three years of progressively more responsible post-graduate experience, preferably gained in a similarly diverse and operationally complex health system with robust ambulatory care pharmacy servicesORBoard certification in specialty or Pharmacotherapy in conjunction with five years of progressively more responsible post-graduate experience, preferably gained in a similarly diverse and operationally complex health system with robust ambulatory care pharmacy services.Knowledge of area-specific technology, including, but not limited to, pharmacy information systems, automated dispensing technology, software, equipment, and automation.
