Location: This position is onsite at the Jackson, Grand Rapids, Saginaw, Lansing, or other headquarters, dependent on location. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Sr Mgr Elec Services has statewide responsibility for employee safety and overall safe operations of equipment to protect employees and the general public. This role also provides strategic leadership for Protection and Control devices at 1,200 substations (HVD, LVD, strategic customer substations), and for all smart electronic devices on the HVD and LVD Lines. Leads a workforce consisting of field supervision, engineering/technical analysts, and Operation, Maintenance & Construction (OM&C) employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish strong partnerships with HVD Engineering to construct successful projects to enhance the reliability of the electric distibution system
  • Leadership in the Electric Reliability Rally Room to support SAIDI and work plan adherence goals
  • Provide direct supervision support, and training to HVD Leadership, assess competencies, knowledge and provide leadership and coaching for growth and development
  • Assist with project execution budget, forecast, and actual spending while driving enhancement of HVD Lines problem solving and process improvement at varios levels of the organization using project controls, metrics, and reporting.
  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of Electrical Power Systems (protection, controls, operation, maintenance and construction).
  • Ability to manage a large, statewide organization. Set, communicate and model expectations.
  • Strong communication skills. Ability to set a vision and influence the direction of the organization.
  • Strong relationship with union safety reps and state council. Knowledge of working agreement.
  • Knowledge of the Substation Procedures Manual, Safety Manual and Work Methods Manual.
  • Ability to read Electrical Wire Diagrams and Schematic Drawings.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology and7+ years of experience in the maintenance and/or operations of HVD/distribution substations; and commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and/or design of protection, monitoring, and control systems. Supervisory experience required.
  • [OR] Associate'sdegree in Engineering, Engineering Technology and 9+ years of experience in the maintenance and/or operations of HVD/distribution substations; and commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and/or design of protection, monitoring, and control systems. Supervisory experience required.
  • [OR] High School diploma and 11+ years of experience in the maintenance and/or operations of HVD/distribution substations; and commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and/or design of protection, monitoring, and control systems. Supervisory experience required.
