HDR currently has an opening in North Carolina for a Senior Power Consultant to join our Resources Business Group team and Power Market Sector. Primary responsibilities for this position are to plan and direct management consulting projects, support or lead multi-disciplinary projects, and participate in large programs. The Senior Power Consultant will support the development and delivery of new power generation capital projects, utility planning support, and establishment of program management frameworks for power projects. This role integrates strategic advisory and project execution, serving as a trusted partner to power clients and internal leadership. The position requires strong experience in capital project lifecycle delivery, utility operations and planning, and ability to stand up and mature PMO functions to support large-scale programs, as well as strong interpersonal, presentation, and delivery skills. The willingness to mentor staff is also important to help us develop the next generation of management consultants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assume leadership responsibilities for the management of multidisciplinary infrastructure programs with a high degree of technical complexity and non-technical intricacies.
  • Direct the services provided by multiple large program teams or provide day-to-day leadership on a single large project.
  • Support development of leading studies and program-level governance structures for utility and power producer initiatives (e.g., fleet transitions, generation portfolio investments, or strategic capital programs)
  • Support development and execution of new power generation capital projects, including project planning, delivery strategy, scope development, and coordination with owners, engineers, and stakeholders.
  • Provide advisory services to power and data center clients related to generation planning, asset strategy, and infrastructure investment prioritization.
  • Develop and implement project and program controls, including scheduling, cost tracking, risk management, and change management processes.
  • Facilitate coordination between engineering, construction, and client teams to ensure alignment and execution of project objectives.
  • Contribute to the growth of HDR's program management services by (1) building a long-term trusted advisory relationship with clients; (2) looking for opportunities to expand our services to address the needs of existing clients; (3) supporting the pursuit of new program contract opportunities; (4) mentoring and training staff working on programs; and (5) supporting practice-wide initiatives.
  • Contribute thought leadership in utility or power producer program delivery and capital project development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting development and delivery of power generation or major utility capital projects.
  • Experience working with utility clients on planning, asset management, or owner's engineering programs.
  • Experience working in an integrated fashion within a Program Management Office (PMO) comprised of both consultant and client staff
  • Familiarity with program governance, project controls, and reporting frameworks for large capital programs.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience building a cohesive team culture and managing team members located in various locations
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Sciences, Planning, Business Administration or closely related field
  • At least one of the following licenses/certifications recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered: Professional Engineering License (PE), PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, PMI Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification, AICP Certification, or CMAA Certified Construction Manager (CCM) Certification
  • Willingness to travel regularly, and if needed, commute to a client's site temporarily
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or closely related field
  • A minimum of 10 years consulting experience and extensive related expertise
  • Proficiency with MS Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Access and Outlook
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong relationship, organizational and follow-up skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
