Target hiring range for this position will be between $17.05-$21.31 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data

Job Summary:

The Research Technologist will perform duties in the Lucks Laboratory for RNA Engineering at Northwestern University to support projects on mega scale characterization of RNA dynamics and function. Responsibilities include RNA library synthesis and purification, chemical probing experiments, and next-generation sequencing workflows. The position requires hands-on experience with standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively.

This is a 1-year termed position with the option for renewal based on available funding and performance.

Specific Responsibilities:

Follows pre-defined protocols, policies, procedure, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices and conducts standard and repetitive experiments and completes basic trouble-shooting techniques.Sets-up, operates and maintains standard lab equipment. Using an entry level of skill, completes the following activities:

Molecular Biology:

• DNA, RNA, Protein isolation, purification and expression
• PCR
• Sequencing of DNA

Cellular Biology:

• Cell culture, cell isolation

Other (please specify):

• Chemical probing
• NGS sequence analysis
• Records test results and may maintain databases.
• Maintains accurate and detailed electronic records of results
• Performs general laboratory duties including dishwashing, autoclaving, collection maintenance, and safety responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)

• HS diploma and some basic science courses are required.
• HS diploma or equivalent and some basic science courses is required.

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)

• BS in a basic science and no experience or 2 years practical lab/bench experience is required
• Prior laboratory experience or a technician role is preferred.

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

• RNA molecular biology (reaction setup, RNA synthesis and purification, next-gen sequencing workflow).Next-generation sequencing. RNA structure probing.
