Purpose
The Specialty Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining both gas and diesel specialty and small tool construction equipment to support field operations. This role ensures that all assigned equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for field use, minimizing downtime and supporting project schedules.
Focus & Scope
Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below:
  1. Inspect, diagnose, and repair specialty construction equipment, both gas and diesel, including hydraulic and electrical equipment.
  1. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications, safety standards, and company policies.
  1. Assists in loading and unloading equipment for internal and external customers.
  1. Safely operate a wide range of small tools and construction-related equipment.
  1. Maintains accurate inventory records including repairs completed, parts ordered, and stock levels.
  1. Serve as lead for the Small Tools shop, coordinating the work of crew members to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  1. Collaborate with field operations to ensure specialty tools and equipment are available, serviced, and ready for use.
  1. Maintain up-to-date vehicle service and maintenance records.
  1. Support company's zero-injury safety culture by adhering to safety programs, attending training, and ensuring equipment is maintained to the highest safety standards.
  1. Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental and operational needs.

Role Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
  • A High School diploma or G.E.D. or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
Experience & Industry Expertise:
  • Minimum of three to five (3-5) years of experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of small equipment, both diesel and gasoline type engines and hydraulic equipment preferred.
  • Construction industry experience a plus.
Specific Job Requirements:
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background investigation.
  • Current on all company required safety training.
  • Ability to preserve confidential and proprietary information and avoid conflicts-of-interest.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • Knowledge of construction equipment and tools such as Service truck; including skid steer tractors, mini excavators, air compressors, generators under 25kw, pneumatic tools, chain saw, cut off saw, water pumps, vibratory compactors, electronic motors, light towers, message boards, utility trailers, vacuum trailers, miscellaneous hand and power tools for construction use.
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong ability to maintain construction tools.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.
  • Ability to consistently appear for work on time.
  • Thorough knowledge of small tools, to include hydraulics, and small engine equipment, both gas and diesel.
  • Working knowledge of safety practices and procedures while making mechanical repairs.
  • Working knowledge of automated Foley Grinding Equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment with accuracy and speed, ability to create effective working relationships with employees; ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.

Equipment Used, Physical Demands, and Work Environment
Equipment Used:
  • General office equipment, telephone, automobile, personal protective equipment (i.e. safety glasses, hearing protection) when visiting plants.
Physical Demands & Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Physical Sitting for long periods of time working on the computer or attending meetings. Job site visits require walking on uneven ground, steep slopes, and exposure to extreme temperature and/or humidity. Some lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
  1. Work Environment: Work Environment: Typical office environment with adequate temperatures and lighting, low levels of noise. Demands of meeting tight deadlines. Exposed to the conditions of job sites which can include loud noise, dust, fumes, and extreme weather conditions prevalent at the time. May work various hours, including early mornings, dusk or evenings.
BASE SALARY RANGE:
$74,167.00 - $103,833.00
The range displayed reflects the range the company reasonable expects to pay for the position. The actual base salary is subject to variation due to the role, level, geographic location, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
