DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Reviews the client's medical history and performs appropriate health assessment or reassessment based on history, age, and fitness level.

Educates the client on results and aids in goal setting.

Establishes an exercise plan to address individualized needs. Follows the ACSM or NSCA exercise program guidelines.

Provides exercise instruction during an orientation session and modifies as necessary according to the client's response.

Provides personal training for all levels of clients. Leads client through a safe and effective workout.

Provides fitness floor supervision assists with questions about their exercise program.

Corrects exercise technique, takes blood pressure as needed, and monitors for the safety of all participants.

Participates as needed in other projects or programs including community classes, presentations, marketing events, bulletin boards, tidying client files, cleaning equipment, and customer survey reporting.

Communicates with other departments to provide quality programs and services.

May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in exercise science, fitness and nutrition, health promotion, or a related field.

Personal training or specialty group fitness instruction certification within six (6) months as a condition of continued employment in this job classification:

  • - American Council on Exercise (ACE)
  • - International Fitness Professionals Association (IFPA)
  • - National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)
  • - National Council on Strength and Fitness (NCSF)
  • - National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association (NESTA)
  • - National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA)
  • - National Federation of Personal Trainers (NFPT)
  • - National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
  • - World Instructor Training Schools (WITS)
  • - other applicable certification approved by department.
