Position Summary
Sikich is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented auditing professional with strong leadership and federal financial statement audit experience. This role requires demonstrated experience leading and performing key aspects of federal financial statement audit engagements, including audit planning, execution, and day-to-day coordination with client personnel in accordance with GAGAS, OMB guidance, and the GAO Financial Audit Manual (FAM).

The successful candidate must also have demonstrable expertise in the Federal Credit Reform Act (FCRA), including experience auditing or supporting the audit of FCRA-related balances such as subsidy costs, reestimates, and related financial reporting and disclosures.
This role is responsible for managing audit teams, reviewing workpapers, and ensuring the quality and timeliness of deliverables, while serving as a key point of contact for engagement teams and supporting senior leadership on complex or technical audit matters.

The position requires the ability to pass requisite federal background checks.
What will you do in this role?
  • Manage and execute key areas of federal financial statement audit engagements, including planning, testing, and delivery of assigned audit components in accordance with GAGAS, OMB guidance, and the GAO Financial Audit Manual (FAM).
  • Own and be accountable for the quality and timely completion of assigned audit areas, ensuring all workpapers, findings, and deliverables are accurate, complete, and client-ready prior to review by senior leadership.
  • Manage assigned audit areas in accordance with contractual requirements, including responsibility for meeting or exceeding established deadlines and deliverables with a high level of quality.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute detailed workplans for assigned audit areas, including timelines, milestones, task assignments, and coordination of team efforts to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Continuously monitor progress against project plans, proactively identifying risks to timelines, quality, or deliverables and implementing corrective actions.
  • Perform and direct detailed reviews of audit workpapers, findings, and reports, ensuring alignment with professional standards and firm methodologies.
  • Evaluate the results of audit procedures and develop and support audit conclusions, including identification and communication of issues and proposed resolutions.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop staff, including delegating tasks, providing real-time feedback, and ensuring work is completed in accordance with expectations and deadlines.
  • Serve as a primary day-to-day point of contact for client personnel, including leading meetings, conducting walkthroughs, and coordinating audit support requests.
  • Provide technical support on financial reporting and internal control matters, escalating complex or judgmental issues to Senior Managers or Principals as appropriate.
  • Apply knowledge of FCRA to support audit procedures and evaluate results related to subsidy costs, reestimates, and related financial reporting and disclosures.
  • Leverage technology, including data analytics and AI-enabled tools, to improve efficiency, consistency, and quality of audit procedures.
  • Support business development and practice initiatives, including proposal development and operational support, as needed.
What do you need to succeed in this role?
  • Bachelor's degree required; Accounting degree preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, including experience performing federal financial statement audits.
  • Demonstrated experience in external federal financial statement audits performed in accordance with GAGAS and FAM, with direct responsibility for audit execution and development of audit conclusions (not limited to audit support roles).
  • Demonstrated experience supporting audit procedures related to Federal Credit Reform Act (FCRA) balances, including subsidy costs, reestimates, and related disclosures.
  • Ability to pass required background checks.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
Core Experience and Skills
  • Experience performing federal financial statement audits under GAGAS and FAM.
  • Experience managing discrete audit areas or significant audit sections, including planning, execution, and delivery.
  • Proven ability to perform and review detailed audit workpapers, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Experience supervising and developing staff, including delegation and review.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to evaluate audit results and develop conclusions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with client personnel and engagement leadership.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Knowledge in the following areas preferred:
  • Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB) Statements of Federal Financial Accounting Standards.
  • Government Accountability Office's (GAO's) Government Auditing Standards (GAS)
  • American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' (AICPA's) AU-Cs
  • GAO/Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) Financial Audit Manual (FAM),
  • GAO Federal Information System Controls Audit Manual (FISCAM)
  • Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Bulletin 24-02, Audit Requirements for Federal Financial Statements (as amended)
  • Other requirements for federal reporting and accounting, such as U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) bulletins and circulars, the U.S. Standard General Ledger (USSGL), etc.
In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the midpoint of the salary range for this role is $123,000.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as the final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
