BMS - Validation Component Lead

Stellantis
United States, Michigan, Auburn Hills
May 28, 2026

The Battery Management System (BMS) Validation Component Lead is responsible for driving the technical execution and validation outcomes for BMS software across assigned battery programs within the Vehicle & Propulsion Controls organization.

This role is accountable for developing and executing componentlevel validation strategies, ensuring complete test coverage, verification of safetycritical and diagnostic functions, and alignment with program and release objectives.

The BMS Validation Component Lead guides the technical activities of the validation team across multiple environments-including High Voltage HIL, battery test benches, and vehicle platforms-to ensure accurate and robust validation of BMS functionality, diagnostics, and safety behavior.

This position works crossfunctionally with Battery Systems, Hardware, Controls, Software Development, Diagnostics, and Functional Safety teams to define and execute comprehensive validation campaigns and ensure compliance with all Stellantis BMS and highvoltage regulatory and software specifications.

The role also interfaces with external BMS suppliers to coordinate validation activities, support issue resolution, and ensure alignment between internal validation objectives and supplier deliverables.

The BMS Validation Component Lead provides clear visibility into validation status, technical risks, and coverage, supporting datadriven decisions and ensuring readiness for software release and vehicle integration.

Key Activities: ACTIVITIES

Validation Strategy & Planning

  • Define and maintain BMS validation requirements and Design Verification Plans (DVPs) in alignment with program and software release objectives
  • Establish validation scope for BMS core functions (SoX, HV battery management), Vehicle Functions (VF), and Networking Operating Specifications (NOS)
  • Develop and manage validation timing plans, ensuring alignment with Feature Rollout Plan (FROP) and program milestones

Validation Execution & Technical Leadership

  • Lead validation activities across High Voltage HIL, battery test benches, and vehicle environments to ensure robust verification of BMS functionality, diagnostics, and safety behavior
  • Guide the team in test development, execution, and troubleshooting, ensuring efficient issue detection and resolution
  • Ensure proper system-level integration and validation of BMS within the HV battery and vehicle architecture

Issue Resolution & Technical Ownership

  • Drive issue investigation and pre-analysis, enabling efficient root cause identification and coordinating resolution across engineering teams
  • Ensure issues are properly tracked, prioritized, and resolved in alignment with program timing and release quality targets

Cross-Functional & Supplier Coordination

  • Collaborate with internal teams (Battery Systems, Hardware, Controls, Diagnostics, Functional Safety) to align on validation approach and execution
  • Interface with external BMS suppliers to coordinate validation activities and resolve integration issues
  • Support and participate in key program reviews (e.g., design reviews / CDR)

Program Tracking & Reporting

  • Provide clear visibility into validation status, software maturity, and technical risks
  • Track validation progress and support data-driven release readiness decisions

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Control Systems, or related technical field from an accredited institution
  • 8+ years of experience in automotive, electrification, or embedded systems engineering
  • Experience with battery management systems (BMS), electrified powertrains, or high-voltage (HV) systems
  • Hands-on experience with validation and testing of battery systems in hybrid and/or electric vehicles
  • Experience using diagnostic and software development tools (e.g., HIL systems, CANalyzer, CANoe, ETAS INCA, or similar)
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion battery systems, including fundamentals of battery behavior and control
  • Proven ability to perform technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Experience working in a cross-functional engineering environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly present technical issues, test results, and validation status

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Control Systems, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline
  • Strong system-level understanding of BMS architecture, including SoX estimation, thermal management, and HV safety controls
  • Experience supporting or leading validation strategy, DVP development, or system-level test planning
  • Experience working with battery test benches, HV HIL systems, and full-vehicle validation environments
  • Experience with supplier coordination or integration of BMS software/hardware components
  • Familiarity with functional safety concepts (ISO 26262) and safety-critical validation practices for HV systems
  • Knowledge of diagnostics and regulatory requirements for electrified powertrains
  • Experience validating failure modes, edge cases, and fault injection scenarios in complex systems
  • Demonstrated ability to drive issue resolution and influence cross-functional engineering teams
  • Experience working in a multi-program or fast-paced development environment with competing priorities
