Description The Department of Neurobiology is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support neuroscience and stem cell research. Primary responsibilities include performing routine molecular biology techniques such as DNA cloning and PCR, maintaining mouse and human pluripotent stem cell cultures, and assisting with neuronal differentiation and brain organoid experiments. The incumbent will support tissue processing activities including fixation, embedding, cryostat sectioning, immunohistochemical staining, and sample archiving. Additional duties include assisting with viral vector preparation and use, flow cytometry and fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS), fluorescence and confocal microscopy imaging, and preparation of organoid and cell culture samples for single-cell and single-nucleus sequencing studies. The ideal candidate will possess strong laboratory skills, attention to detail, and an interest in translational neuroscience research.
Hourly range: $26.23-$30.93
Qualifications

Required:

  • Demonstrated skills in mammalian tissue culture
  • Demonstrated skills working with human pluripotent stem cells
  • Demonstrated skills in conducting cellular differentiation experiments (organoid and non-organoid). Demonstrated skills in tissue collection, fixation, processing, and cryosectioning. Demonstrated skills in conventional and confocal microscopy
  • Demonstrated skills in molecular biology (DNA cloning, PCR, plasmid preparation, DNA and RNA extraction) Skills in Photoshop and Illustrator, and familiarity with microscopy image collection and processing software applications such as ImageJ, Axiovision, Zen, and Imaris, and statistical analysis programs such as Prism.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail. Strong organizational abilities. Able to maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non- technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff; technical, students, faculty and administrators.
