THE POSITION

Join the team at the Department of Veterans and Military Affairs as a Pharmacy Assistant and support the care of the residents at the Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home. This role gives you the chance to help ensure that medications are prepared, organized, and delivered accurately. You will support smooth pharmacy operations while gaining hands-on experience with medications, inventory, and pharmacy technology. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports pharmacy services within a long-term care environment by assisting with medication preparation, inventory, and recordkeeping. It plays an important role in ensuring that residents receive accurate and timely pharmaceutical support. As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will perform the following duties:
- Medication Preparation: Receive, prepare, fill, and compound prescriptions under pharmacist supervision
- Inventory Control: Maintain stock levels, record purchases, and organize pharmaceutical supplies
- Record Accuracy: Enter medication orders, update profiles, and ensure proper billing
- Quality Support: Keep work area clean and orderly, review expired medications, and support improvement programs
- Emergency Readiness: Replenish emergency drug boxes and verify their contents
- Clerical Assistance: Complete office tasks such as filing, copying, and handling messages

- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 1st shift (9:00 AM to 5:00) PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience assisting a licensed pharmacist in the preparation and dispensing of medications in a hospital pharmacy; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be in possession of a Pharmacy Technician license.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
- Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
