Job Description

Based in our Chicago, DC, Boston or New York office, this individual will assist with docketing for US, International and foreign patent matters based on correspondence, PTO documents and completed filings, in order to ensure the docketing database is complete and accurate in a timely manner. In addition, this individual will enter into our database new matters transferred to our firm, including reviewing information available online via Patent Center, Private PAIR, WIPO and foreign patent office website. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Review and analyze incoming documents and correspondence related to US and foreign patent prosecution, to determine the types and deadlines of actions to be entered in our docketing database
  • Reconcile as-filed documents, acknowledgement receipts, attorney comments and incoming/outgoing communications against docketed deadlines in order to clear docketed items
  • Monitor departmental email account for incoming communications and make appropriate docket updates
  • Enter new matters transferred to ArentFox Schiff from previous council, including utilizing patent center, WIPO and foreign patent offices to obtain bibliographic information and outstanding deadlines, when applicable
  • Maintain detailed notes to ensure department, client and attorney requested procedures are strictly adhered

Minimum qualifications:

B.A./B.S. degree is preferred. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent college graduate interested in gaining law firm experience. We will consider prior law firm experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree. Additional requirements include:

  • Strong attention to detail including accurate data entry, proofreading and reading comprehension skills
  • Incredibly tech savvy including the ability to pick up new technologies quickly, plus proficiency in all Office software, including Word, Excel and Outlook; is helpful
  • Ability to work well under pressure and adjust quickly to changing priorities while maintaining a high level of productivity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills
  • Flexibility for overtime required

This is an hourly, non-exempt position that is eligible for a generous overtime plan that exceeds minimum legal requirements.

The anticipated good-faith base salary range for this position is:

DC: $48,000 to $66,000 per year.

Your exact offer will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, your experience, skills, and overall qualifications. In addition to a competitive base salary, certain positions are eligible for a comprehensive performance-based bonus, payable monthly or annually.
