Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

The Defender Law Clerk is responsible for researching legal and other issues, providing findings to attorneys, preparing legal documents and assisting attorneys at legal proceedings

The Office of the Public Advocate protects the fundamental rights of and provides effective legal representation to all indigent persons when appointed by the Maricopa County Superior Court: Juveniles charged with criminal offenses, parents and children in dependency and severance matters, and people facing court-ordered mental health evaluation and treatment.

We Require

  • Graduation from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school

  • Valid Arizona driver's license upon hire. This position may require traveling to various locations

Job Contributions

  • Perform legal and other research, analysis and/or writing and provide findings to attorneys

  • Review case law, statutes, articles, and treatises

  • Draft legal memoranda or motions for defender attorneys

  • Assist defender attorneys at legal proceedings including arraignments, evidentiary hearings, and trials

  • Attend legal seminars and workshops on- and off-site
