Position Summary
Position Description

The Department of Radiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Cardiothoracic Radiologist to join the Cardiothoracic Imaging Division. This position supports the clinical, educational, and collaborative missions of the department within a high volume academic medical center.

The Cardiothoracic Imaging Division is staffed by radiologists with specialized expertise in cardiovascular and thoracic imaging. The division is responsible for interpretation of portable and conventional chest radiographs, thoracic computed tomography (CT) examinations, cardiac CT and MRI studies, and the performance of chest fluoroscopy. The service functions in close collaboration with pulmonology, oncology, internal medicine, cardiology, and cardiac and thoracic surgical services.

The division also performs image-guided thoracic procedures, including CT-guided lung and mediastinal biopsies, with opportunities for interested faculty to participate in procedural practice.

Division faculty participate as integral members of the Multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology and Interstitial Lung Disease programs and contribute imaging expertise to coordinated diagnostic evaluation and treatment planning. Faculty are also involved in education and academic activities across the department.

Position Responsibilities


  • Interpret cardiothoracic imaging studies, including chest radiographs, thoracic CT, and cardiac CT and MRI studies
  • Perform and/or supervise chest fluoroscopy as part of the clinical service
  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinical care through collaboration with pulmonology, oncology, cardiology, internal medicine, and cardiac and thoracic surgical services
  • Contribute imaging expertise to multidisciplinary conferences and programs, including the Multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology Program
  • Teach and mentor diagnostic radiology residents, chest imaging fellows, and medical students
  • Participate in quality improvement, scholarly, or academic activities consistent with departmental needs


Appointment Details

This is an open rank, fixed term faculty appointment at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The department welcomes applications from qualified international candidates. Applicants with equivalent international training and qualifications suitable for academic appointment will be considered. Visa sponsorship may be available for candidates who meet institutional and federal requirements.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
MD or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Board certified or board eligible in Diagnostic Radiology, or eligible for equivalent certification pathways acceptable for faculty appointment and clinical practice
  • Fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Imaging or equivalent clinical experience
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of North Carolina
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary clinical teams
  • Interest or experience in resident and fellow education in an academic medical setting
