Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $65,700 to $90,400/year. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $65,700 to $115,100/year.

Learn more about the benefits of working at UC Brief Summary of Job Duties: Under the direction of the Director of Access Services is responsible for the operations of the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Unit including planning, organizing and supervising the work related to the lending and borrowing of materials within the University of California, the United States, and international locations. Explores, evaluates, and recommends systems and partnerships in resource sharing. Develops and implements new procedures directly impacting UCSB ILL operations in response to evolving technologies, policies, and needs. Manages ILL accounting and compliance. Participates in collaborative policy development and technical systems implementation among various library departments and across the UC system. Recommends new policies to the Director of Access Services and leads special projects as needed. Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 1-3 years Working in a library or comparable setting
- 1-3 years Management & Supervisory experience
- Progressively responsible library or resource sharing experience

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
- 50% Interlibrary Loan Supervision and Administration - Serves as Unit Head of Interlibrary Loan. Hires, trains and supervises staff assigned to Interlibrary Loan. Schedules and directs the work activities of borrowing and lending staff. Evaluates work performance, provides coaching, and recommends appropriate personnel actions as needed. Approves timecards for staff in the timekeeping system. Oversees all Interlibrary Loan functions related to UCSB Library's resource sharing program. Explores, evaluates, and recommends systems and partnerships in resource sharing. Implements new procedures tied to evolving technologies, policies, and organizational needs. Collaborates with other library departments as appropriate. Recommends ILL policy and program changes to the Director of Access Services. Applies comprehensive knowledge of general library policies and procedures, as well as specialized technical processes and equipment endemic to interlibrary loan, in assessing and independently solving problems in the unit. Works with the Unit Head of Circulation & Course Reserves to develop policies and procedures regarding use of the Integrated Library System (ILS). Serves on various UC-wide ILL committees, and cooperates in developing procedures and policies regarding UC resource sharing systems, including testing and implementing new resource sharing software and systems as needed. Performs regular assessment of services performed by unit and uses results to shape services and inform workflows in the unit. Compiles ILL statistics and narrative for the departmental Annual Report. Writes other unit reports as needed. Compiles general ILL statistics as needed.
- 20% Management of Borrowing and Lending Operations - Supervises staff in the assessment and routing of new borrowing requests to potential suppliers, and in monitoring the receipt, delivery and notification to local users for borrowed materials. Oversees staff in the continuing management of borrowed materials, including renewals, recalls, overdue notices, and returns. Supervises staff in the processing and delivery of lending requests, assuring compliance with loan conditions tied to specific UCSB library collections, and the timely shipment of all lent material. Oversees staff in the continuing management of lent material, including renewals, recalls, overdue notices, returns, and billing for lost or damaged UCSB items. Responsible for maintaining effective customer relations, including patrons and library partners. Handles issues as referred by ILL staff.
- 10% UC Systemwide Participation - Serves on various UC-wide ILL committees. Cooperates in developing procedures and policies regarding UC resource sharing systems, including evaluating, testing, and implementing new resource sharing software and systems as needed.
- 10% ILL Accounting - Oversees financial aspects of ILL including accounts receivable and payable, as well as authorizing billing and payment for lost or damaged items. Assures that recharges between UCSB ILL and UC libraries comply with Accounting guidelines. Facilitates purchase of ILL materials, and, as appropriate, pays for lender invoices using a UCSB FlexCard; maintains a proper auditing trail for all these transactions. Responsible for the budgeting of supplies, equipment, and personnel. Manages the procurement of ILL office supplies in the UCSB purchasing system. Takes part in the annual Library call for Budget Proposals, submitting proposals for ILL to the Director.
- 5% Compliance Management - Monitors compliance with ILL codes, laws, and regulations as well as cooperative agreements between UCSB and other libraries. Referring to U.S. Copyright law, maintains compliance standards in ILL practices
5% Miscellaneous Duties - Assists in the interviews of candidates for staff vacancies in other units in the department. Coordinates and manages special projects as they arise. Participates in professional development and department-related training and conferences. Serves on relevant committees and working groups. Keeps abreast of innovations and trends in Access Services and Interlibrary Loan. Makes service recommendations to the Director based on user needs, research, and assessment. Contributes to the Library's long-range and strategic planning. Attends regular Unit Head and Access Services meetings to advise and collaborate on issues across the department.
