Job Description
**PENDING CONTRACT AWARD**

The Engineering Technician III at the Potomac River Test Range (PRTR) performs technical work. The work
requires the ability to learn and apply established methods, procedures, and techniques.

Duties and Responsibilities


* Responsible for Range Operations and Sustainment sub-task mission leadership and supports to test preparation and execution
* Works independently to perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed) in one or more of the following mission areas: Range Operations Center (ROC); Safety; Explosive Materials Handling; Test Execution; Target Support; Marine Operations; Range Preventive, Corrective, and Modification/Modernization Maintenance; and Marine Maintenance
* Selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents
* Receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed; performs recurring work independently; work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions
* Constructs components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment
* Troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions
* Follows specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment
* Conducts various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; selects, sets up, and operates standard test equipment and records test data
* Assists in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials which are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts
* Develops information concerning previous operational failures and modifications
* Uses judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information
* Demonstrates a knowledge of, and skill in applying, standardized rules, procedures, or operations requiring considerable training and experience in engineering methods and practices acquired through classroom or on-the-job training in the field
* Computes findings from test firing data to determine the center of impact, frequency distribution, standard deviation and probable error
* Uses simple hand instruments, such as levels and compasses
* Draws simple curves and lines, make tracings, or take measurements
* Takes test readings and record findings
* Performs basic mathematics using standard formulas
* Conducts basic field observations and obtain, identify, handle, and store material sample
* Assists higher-graded technicians by preparing graphs, charts, diagrams, and visual presentations
* Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications

* High school diploma or equivalent, with some vocational or technical training is desired
* Five (5) years of experience performing assignments that may not be completely standardized or prescribed, selecting or adapting standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receiving initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, and performing recurring work independently
* Technical assembly and troubleshooting skills for complex equipment
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and diagrams with accuracy and attention to detail
* Problem-solving abilities, applied particularly to resolve challenges in T&E processes and equipment, providing innovative, reliable solutions
* Communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively and train lower-level technicians, ensuring technical standards are upheld throughout the teams
* Ability to work collaboratively with other engineers, providing insights and support to achieve optimized testing outcomes, and encouraging cooperative efforts in line with best practices
* Technical acumen in instrumentation and methodologies related to T&E and possesses strong skills in using untried and untested measurement techniques

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

* Military experience
* Prior experience working in a specific engineering discipline related to T&E
* Involvement in testing and troubleshooting military-grade systems

Physical Qualifications

* The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment
* Must be capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
* Must be able to view computer monitor for extended periods of time
* Must be capable of lifting 25 lbs. unassisted

Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements

* Must be a U.S. Citizen
* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
* Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions
* Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
* Must be able to successfully complete a background check
* Must possess or be able to obtain an interim clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment
