Description

Position Title: Manufacturing Systems Engineer

Reporting to: Vice President Digital Transformation

Department: Manufacturing

Central Power Systems & Services is a privately held company with deep roots going back to 1954.

Our Mission Statement is forging long-lasting partnerships by providing first-class customer support. We live that statement every single day. We are looking for a Manufacturing Systems Engineer to help support that mission.

JOB SUMMARY

This is a rare opportunity for a senior manufacturing systems technologist to own the full digital transformation agenda at a company that is actively scaling. The scope is broad by design: own the technology architecture connecting shop floor, ERP, and data layers; build dashboards and analytics tools that make KPIs like OEE, scrap, on-time delivery, and inventory visible and actionable; and drive the digital roadmap from concept through deployment across current and future facilities. This role is the foundation of a growing technology function-built to scale as the business does. Work directly with Epicor ERP and Vault systems.

ROLE IMPACT

CPS&S is scaling-new facilities, growing revenue, and an expanding customer base. Within 12 months, this role will have materially changed how the company operates and set the foundation for what comes next. Specifically:

  • Operations leadership makes decisions from data, not gut. Real-time dashboards replace manual reporting and spreadsheet heroics across the plant.
  • The technology architecture is documented, intentional, and scalable. Systems talk to each other by design, not by accident.
  • The Ops & Technology team moves faster. This role absorbs technical execution burden so the team focuses on outcomes, not firefighting.
  • Digital transformation has momentum. Projects ship, tools get adopted, and the roadmap advances-not just gets planned.
  • The architecture is built for what's next. Systems, data models, and integrations are designed to extend across multiple facilities as the company grows-not rebuilt from scratch each time.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Manufacturing Data Systems & Visualization

  • Design and build operational dashboards and visualization tools covering key manufacturing KPIs-OEE, scrap, on-time delivery, and inventory-providing real-time and historical visibility to operations leadership and the shop floor.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines that extract, transform, and surface machine, production, and ERP data for analysis and reporting.
  • Build integrations between IoT/machine data sources, Epicor ERP, and Vault systems to create a unified operational data environment.

MES & Manufacturing Systems Infrastructure

  • Evaluate, design, and implement MES capabilities that close the loop between shop floor execution and ERP-including work order tracking, labor capture, and production reporting.
  • Own the architecture of manufacturing technology systems as they evolve-ensuring integrations between IoT, MES, ERP, and data layers are scalable and maintainable as the business grows.

C# Application Development & Systems Engineering

  • Develop purpose-built C# / .NET applications that solve specific manufacturing and operational challenges-from shop floor tooling to back-end data services.
  • Architect and maintain APIs, data services, and system integrations that connect manufacturing equipment, ERP, and business intelligence layers.
  • Write maintainable, production-grade code with clear documentation; own the full development lifecycle from design through deployment.

Operational Engagement & Implementation

  • Shop Floor Collaboration: Work on the production floor to observe manufacturing processes firsthand, identifying bottlenecks and opportunities where software can solve physical workflow problems.
  • Solution Deployment & Adoption: Own implementation end-to-end-from deployment through operator training-ensuring new tools are used, not shelved.
  • Operational Fluency: Translate manufacturing workflows, constraints, and data into system requirements without needing it over-explained-this role is expected to bring that fluency in the door.

Benefits

  • Competitive Pay
  • Medical, Dental, Vision & Life Insurance
  • 401k with company match
  • Paid Time Off
  • Training & Professional Development
  • Positive and productive work environment

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
  • C# Proficiency: Strong experience in C# development, including OOP principles, .NET.
  • SQL: ability to write complex queries and stored procedures in Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Data Systems & Visualization: Demonstrated experience building operational dashboards, data pipelines, and visualization tools in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Must live in or be willing to relocate to the Kansas City, Missouri area.

Preferred

  • Experience working with ERP systems (Epicor experience a plus) and PDM/Vault systems in a manufacturing context
  • Working knowledge of network protocols including TCP/IP
  • Familiarity with cloud data integration platforms and awareness of cybersecurity principles as they apply to manufacturing and OT environments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
