Position Summary: The Senior Satellite Systems Engineer will be responsible for systems engineering and satellite design activities and ensuring the designs can be translated into specifications for manufacturing.

Primary Responsibilities:

1) 65%



  • Design and implement systems for new spacecraft designs and to accommodate a variety of new mission payloads onto heritage Airbus spacecraft platforms, including ARROW

    • Customize the Airbus US Space & Defense manufactured satellite platform marketed as the ARROW platform to meet customer requirements:
    • Develop system level requirements and requirement flow-down to the various disciplines, subsystems, and components - in all phases of the systems development lifecycle with particular emphasis on Design for Cost/Design for Manufacturability/Design for Test approaches
    • Ensure maximum reuse of the existing ARROW product and if necessary identify need for modification


  • Ability to drive and participate in multiple design activities (programs or mission) could lead to spacecraft, payload, satellite bus, ground system (control and user segments) and/or launch integration activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in cross-functional planning, coordination, and task execution situations involving the full spectrum of system engineering and integration activities.
  • Pursue new US Government opportunities tying in capabilities from both the US and European Airbus product lines
  • Support the definition of ARROW customization process for customer mission needs


2) 15%



  • Define and own key aspects of the ARROW product development roadmap: includes design adjustments, schedule, and cost targets aligned with future business capture strategies.
  • Support the definition of ARROW customization process for customer mission needs


3) 10%



  • Perform engineering activities to accommodate payloads on a standard ARROW product. Promote and optimize cost savings by reuse of the platform design and manufacturing infrastructure in the pursuit of various constellation prospects.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:

Education:

Required: Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas or combination of education and experience.

Preferred: Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas or combination of education and experience.

Experience:



  • A minimum of 10 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 8 years of experience with a Master's degree in one or more engineering domains associated with satellite systems
  • Experience working with satellite systems, starting from conceptual designs and tradeoffs through detailed design, development, manufacture, integration, test, launch, and early orbit operations.
  • Manufacturing experience highly desirable.


Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:



  • Proficiency with various systems engineering tools and processes
  • Familiarity with elements of space mission architectures extending beyond the satellite platform including launch, flight operations, mission CONOPS, user interfaces, etc.
  • Communicate effectively in a clear and concise manner across multiple levels.
  • Be team-minded and ready to work in a multi-functional and multi-cultural, fast-moving and complex/technical environment.
  • Ability to lead a small team of engineers.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Flexible attitude and strong initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results.


Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):



  • Excellent listening, comprehension & interpersonal skills as responsible for daily communication via email and phone calls required.


  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication (verbal/writing), and presentation skills.


Location(s):



  • If FL based, presence in Washington, DC area (20%) to coordinate with VA-based team and present to various customers and mission partners
  • Occasional International travel to collaborate with European Airbus counterparts


Eligibility:



  • US citizenship is required


Clearance:



  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government security clearance
  • Active DoD security clearance at Secret or above highly desirable.
