Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is looking for a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) Sepsis Coordinator to join the team. This role will be PRN, weekdays (no weekends); averaging 4-8 hours per week. Hybrid: at minimum 4 hours per week onsite.

Registered Nurse (RN) Sepsis Coordinator Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with physicians and staff in an effort to facilitate early identification and intervention to decrease sepsis mortality and length of stay. Assists clinicians with performing comprehensive assessments by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data to identify patients with sepsis
  • Improve outcomes related to sepsis management and complex sepsis issues.
  • Acts as a consultant in the clinical setting and a subject matter expert, teaching patients and families on techniques related to sepsis.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates cost effective sepsis related continuing education programs for staff.
  • Tracks, supports and submits hospital sepsis data to the clinical team, quality department and national benchmarking agencies
  • Ensures the protocols and therapies for sepsis become the standard of care followed within the facility. Participates in rounds with Physicians who are monitoring sepsis patients
  • Conducts monthly sepsis program meetings to evaluate outcomes, develop policies/protocols, review current best practices through networking and ongoing education to enhance the overall program
  • Coordinates process improvement activities by assigning specific tasks intended to improve performance to various departments and conducting the appropriate follow-up to ensure successful outcomes
  • Evaluates compliance with interdisciplinary sepsis documentation, sepsis bundle compliance and Physician utilization of sepsis orders
  • Participates in a minimum of 80 hours of self-development activities with a minimum of 18 formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record
  • May perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Must have 16 hours in specialized sepsis education; Bachelors Degree in Nursing
  • Experience: 2 years in an acute care setting including one year of quality performance improvement experience
  • Certifications/Licenses: BLS from the American Heart Association; Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience: Critical care (ICU or ED) - ED background and/or ED charting processes.

  • Other: Interpersonal skills. Leadership experience.
