JOB SUMMARY A Dock Lead coordinates daily logistics operations, including loading/unloading, inventory and documentation accuracy (delivery paperwork, cylinder labels, manifests/bills of lading) and leak checking cylinders. This role requires proficiency in warehouse management systems, material handling equipment (forklifts), and strong communication to coordinate with carriers. Primary responsibility is overseeing the safe movement of cylinders, leak checking cylinders, compliance with safety standards and upholding Quality Standards. Alongside logistical duties, train fellow employees (drivers), train dock team on cylinder leak checking safety procedures and cylinder segregation, act as a liaison between management and the shipping/receiving floor, and leverage extensive knowledge and expertise to provide guidance. Maintain all preventive maintenance and calibration schedules for all on site equipment, tools and LLS. Lead daily toolbox talks. Leading by example, the Dock Lead sets the standard for excellence and safety, driving productivity while maintaining a steadfast focus on operational efficiency. Essential Functions SHIPPING RESPONSIBILITIES: Safely and securely load cylinders for deliveries, including proper labeling and documentation to comply with shipping regulations, quality standards and customer specifications. Prepare and palletize all cylinder returns/transfers/empties for shipment to respective filling plants on interbranch route and/or common carrier. Maintain shipping records, including packing lists, and BOL's/Manifests, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Act as a liaison between the shipping department and external parties. Record all activities in the inventory management system, updating stock levels as needed. Provide shipping updates and tracking information to site management as needed. Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently. Adhere to safety regulations, best practices and quality standards in all shipping activities. RECEIVING RESPONSIBILITIES: Receives incoming cylinders. Verifies the quality and count of all cylinders unloaded from trucks. Inspect and report all damage, discrepancies, or quality issues with received cylinders. Store cylinders in the designated storage areas. Record all received cylinders in the inventory management system, updating stock levels as needed. Assist in maintaining a clean and organized receiving area. Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently. Adhere to safety regulations, best practices and quality standards in all receiving activities. LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrates exemplary leadership by consistently embodying a positive attitude, setting a standard for the team to follow. Work with the Site Manager daily to understand the workload and expectations for the day. Communicate any scheduled delivery issues to Site Manager that prevent expectations from being met, including critical maintenance items. Ensure the drivers are trained and cross-trained to meet customer demand. Ensure dock team members are trained on cylinder segregation and cylinder leak checking safety procedures. Ensure the safety of all employees on site. The Lead should monitor that all PPE is worn as necessary, and all operations are performed in a safe manner. Effectively escalate safety concerns, incidents, and injuries to management in a timely and comprehensive manner, ensuring swift and appropriate action is taken to mitigate risks and uphold a safe working environment. Adhere to attendance requirements by proactively participating in all meetings scheduled by management, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, and facilitating effective communication and collaboration across teams. Perform any tasks deemed necessary by management to achieve company objectives. Adhere to safety regulations, best practices and quality standards in all duties performed. Required for All Jobs Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all policies and standards QUALIFICATIONS Education High School Diploma or equivalent Required Work Experience 4-6 years At least 5 years of prior experience with shipping in a distribution or manufacturing environment. Required. 1-3 years Proficiency in operating forklifts and other material handling equipment (valid forklift certification is a plus). Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Have advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite, including MS Excel Strong verbal and written communication skills Familiarity with inventory management systems and computer systems High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate documentation Root Cause Analysis Techniques 5s Principles Mandatory must possess a valid commercial Class B Drivers' License, Hazmat, Air Brake Endorsements, and Medical card; packaged gas straight truck driver. Class A Drivers' License & Tanker Endorsements preferred. Must have previous commercial driving experience and have graduated from an accredited commercial driving school. Minimum of 5 years road experience preferred with no previous moving violations for five years. Must be able to push cart 200 + lb. cylinders and bend/lift 50+lb containers. Must have the ability to read and write English language. Perform simple mathematical calculations. Must have ability to handle receipts; read maps, road signs, maintain record of duty status, etc. Ability to perform basic administrative functions and problem solving. Must be flexible with work hours. Prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and climbing. Capable of working in diverse weather and working conditions. Preferred previous experience in the cylinder gas specialty chemical industry.
