The Resiliency Planning & Management (RPM) unit leads NYC DOT's efforts to prepare the city's transportation infrastructure including streets, sidewalks, and waterfronts for the impacts of climate change. The candidate will support applied research and spatial analysis for high-priority resiliency projects, including coastal protection, stormwater mitigation, and extreme heat initiatives.

The College Aide will assist RPM staff in fulfilling requirements for New York State-funded grant studies and interagency projects. Under direct supervision, the College Aide will perform the following tasks:
-Assist in the analysis of tidal, meteorological, and sea level rise datasets to support assessments of climate change impacts on transportation infrastructure.
-Support the Waterfront Street Ends study, including research, data collection, and analysis related to public access and coastal flood risk.
-Contribute to the development of evaluation methodologies for the legislated Cool Pavement Pilot and other Urban Heat Island mitigation strategies.
-Prepare maps, graphics, and data visualizations using ArcGIS Pro or QGIS to support internal reports, presentations, and stakeholder communications.
-Assist in the preparation of materials for Advisory Working Groups composed of non profit partners and interagency representatives, including DEP and NYCEM.

Minimum Qualifications

For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.

Preferred Skills

- Enrollment in an academic program in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Experience working with spatial data and mapping software, including ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, and QGIS.
- Familiarity with climate hazards and mitigation strategies relevant to transportation and urban infrastructure.
- Ability to prepare clear data visualizations and draft concise project narratives.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and meet project deadlines.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
