Position Overview
The General Maintenance Repair Technician position in the Painting and Carpentry department is responsible for working on a team to perform a wide variety of maintenance and emergency repair tasks to University buildings (physical structure, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems), with this position being involved in a regular program of inspection and repair at a journeyman level using more than one skilled trade. This position requires the operation of work issued vehicles.

Work schedule: M-F 7:30AM-4:00PM

Job Description
50% - Construction, Repair, and Preventative Maintenance
  • Assist with construction, repair, and preventative maintenance of campus physical infrastructure
  • Support new construction and renovation projects, including flooring, windows, doors, ceilings, and window coverings
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair roofs, gutters, and flashings
  • Assist with sheetrock installation and repair, painting, wall coverings, and other finish materials
  • Identify and address other physical environment issues as needed
  • Use a variety of bench tools and hand tools safely and effectively
  • Maintain adequate inventory of tools, parts, and supplies required to complete work
40% - Emergency Response and Service Requests
  • Respond to emergency and afterhours service calls as needed
  • Address customer requests related to doors, windows, ceilings, walls, flooring, roofs, water intrusion, and other facility issues
  • Ensure work orders and issues are seen through to completion
  • Request assistance or escalate issues to appropriate staff and leadership when necessary
10% - Other Related Duties
  • Perform other related maintenance work as assigned
  • Assist in other maintenance areas and work units as needed
  • Support snow removal and surface treatment activities

Position Requirements
  1. Must be able to work from ladders and scaffolds.
  2. Work safely from varying heights and follow all safety protocols.
  3. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds or more.
  4. Report to work during declared periods of inclement weather.
  5. Willingness and ability to work overtime and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
  6. Must have a valid driver's license at the time of hire and through duration of employment.

Required Qualifications
  1. High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
  2. One (1) year of experience in a skilled craft area. Certificate from a vocational school or an associate's degree in a building or mechanical trade area may be substituted for the required experience.
  3. Valid driver's license by the time of hire and maintain the license throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience in carpentry, paint, roofs, windows, doors, flooring or other building trades.
  2. Knowledge of the standard practices, tools, equipment and materials associated with a variety of skilled crafts and building trades as evidenced by application materials.
  3. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of skilled crafts and building trades as evidenced by application materials.
  4. Ability to read and correctly interpret blueprints, electrical or plumbing schematics as evidenced by application materials.
  5. Experience working in a university, college or multi-building campus environment.
