What to Expect
Tesla's Electronics Supplier Industrialization team is looking for a subject matter expert to lead the technical industrialization of our innovative Robotic wearable system. This is a pivotal role that bridges the gap between design, materials science, and high-volume manufacturing. You will be a critical collaborator influencing the design for manufacturability to ensure it is mature, testable, and manufacturable from the outset. You will use your expertise in textiles engineering and polymer science to characterize proposed designs, identify performance gaps, develop the process and collaborate with the Design team and external suppliers to deliver a robust, achievable solution.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as the lead technical expert within the SIE organization for advanced polymer and textile systems, driving the manufacturing maturity of functional soft goods that integrate directly with complex electromechanical assemblies
  • Use empirical data to collaborate with the Design team, driving changes that result in a mature, achievable, and manufacturable specification
  • Create the comprehensive technical package with suppliers, including material specifications, construction details, critical-to-quality (CTQ) parameters, and required test procedures
  • Identify, evaluate, and lead the technical development of world-class suppliers capable of executing soft goods manufacturing, complex textiles assembly, elastomers lamination and over molding
  • Drive supplier process development for complex softgoods and textile assemblies, focusing on pattern engineering, cutting, stitching/sewing tolerances, and the integration of technical fabrics to ensure durability and precise fit
  • Lead technical industrialization for textile overmolding and lamination processes, optimizing molding parameters and curing cycles to achieve critical adhesion between substrates and elastomers without compromising material integrity
  • Communicate project status, risks, and technical recommendations clearly and consistently to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders in a structured manner

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Textile Engineering, Textile Science, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Mechancial Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in statistical analysis and tools such as JMP or Minitab
  • Demonstrated experience in a supplier-facing technical role
  • Experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or Supplier Industrialization Engineer working with complex materials or components
  • Proficient in JMP, minitab
  • Experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) methodologies
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work independently, hands on and ready to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Domestic and international travel (expected 30% of the time) is required to engage with CMs, sometimes on short notice
  • Demonstrated industrial experiences specifically working with soft goods, footwear, elastomers, or complex textile over molded assemblies
  • Strong technical understanding of textile production and polymer processing (molding, casting, lamination), and material properties (mechanical, adhesion, wear mechanics)
