What to Expect
The Quality Systems Engineer position is a full-time opportunity in Tesla's Manufacturing team, based at the Energy Manufacturing Site in Buffalo, New York. It's a hands-on role focused on building and enhancing quality management systems in a fast-paced, innovative environment like Tesla's Gigafactory New York (GFNY). The emphasis is on fostering a culture of continuous improvement, problem-solving, and compliance while prioritizing safety, quality, and people.
What You'll Do
- Act as the on-site expert in quality problem-solving. Define metrics, governance processes, and remove barriers to promote continuous improvement across the organization
- Become the go-to person for tools like Kaizen, lean manufacturing, and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) processes. Lead efforts to raise standards beyond basic requirements using first-principles thinking
- Create CAPA processes, monitoring metrics, and feedback mechanisms to identify and prevent issues proactively
- Work with teams to prepare for external audits (e.g., ISO 9001 compliance) and customer visits. Support tools like Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and process control plans
- Introduce new quality tools and technologies to advance product quality and internal management systems at GFNY
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years in quality engineering, including experience in establishing or auditing systems in global manufacturing or remanufacturing settings
- Proven ability to manage teams and perform effective audits. Strong knowledge of quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001) and methodologies (e.g., PFMEA, root cause analysis, CAPA)
- Deep understanding of data analytics in manufacturing, with the skill to turn data into compelling stories for stakeholders
- Servant leadership style-empowering others through guidance and clear communication. High integrity, sound judgment, and resilience in dynamic, high-pressure environments
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar certification preferred

Expected Compensation
- Quality Engineer - $93,600 - $140,400/annual salary
+ cash and stock awards + benefits for all levels
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
