Cardiac Surgery PA position working 13-hour nights in the cardiac surgery ICU and step-down units, working with cardiac surgeons and ICU staff. The BWH Cardiac Surgery Service is a 24/7 PA run service, therefore, working rotating weekends and holidays is required.
This position qualifies for enrollment in MGB Shift Commitment program, paid in two semi-annual lump sum payments (initial 6-month award $8,000, final award $12,000), for total payment of $20,000 for participants who work the minimum hours requirement within the 12-month period." The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. This PA specifically works as a PA in cardiac surgery, credentialed with Operative First Assist, and/or acts as a responding clinician for patients with ventricular assist devices. May have additional duties, such as precepting a small number of learners. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions -Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to patients in the cardiac surgery department. -Assists surgeons in the operating room, performing technical clinical procedures Performs complete histories and physical examinations. -Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests. -Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings. -Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures. -Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries. -Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
