DESCRIPTION

Under Pharmacist general supervision, the Pharmacy Technician III - Pharmacy Medication Access Clinic (PMAC), will support prescription renewal requests, prior authorizations, and other clinical support activities for UCSD Health Cardiology, Endocrinology, and Primary Care clinics (primary focus on cardiology prior authorization support). Pharmacy Technicians in this setting will be responsible for following protocol-mediated review and processing of prescription renewals and prior authorization requests. The Pharmacy Technician will make recommendations to the Pharmacist on approval of prescription renewals and prior authorizations and communicate the result to the appropriate party. They will also assist in chart review for patients within the scope and protocol of the PMAC and Central Prior Auth services, and assist the Pharmacist on clinical interventions impacting quality and pay for performance measures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required for Pharmacy Tech III.

  • Pharmacy Technician License issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy required for both Pharmacy Tech II/III.

  • Minimum of two (2) years for Pharmacy Tech II of relevant experience performing technician duties/ functions required.

  • Minimum of five (5) years for Pharmacy Tech III of relevant experience performing technician duties/ functions required.

  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacy terminology and calculations.

  • Proficient computer experience and accurate data entry skills.

  • Detail and organizational skills to sort, file and retrieve information.

  • Ability to manage assigned workload within deadlines.

  • Ability to work in a self-directed work team environment and function effectively in a high-volume, multiple demand environment.

  • Have excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and be able to articulate complex ideas for all levels of audiences.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Retail pharmacy experience.

  • Experience working with electronic health records (EHR).

  • Experience working in ambulatory care setting or working on medication prior authorizations.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $54,998 - $68,403 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.34 - $32.76

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
