Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is a leading anti-poverty organization serving neighbors in need across New York City, Northern New Jersey, and Westchester. We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the following position:

Position: Substance Abuse Counselor



The Substance Abuse Counselor provides direct counseling, guidance, and case management services to clients with specific substance abuse problems. The counselor participates in delivery of services to all clients as needed.



Webster House is a single room occupancy residence (SRO) providing permanent, supportive housing to formerly homeless single adults, many living with mental illness or HIV/AIDS. Location: Bronx, NY 10456



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and certification as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC).



Substance Abuse Counselor Principal Responsibilities:



  1. Provide appropriate counseling services to individuals with specialized needs as defined in the service plan, including intake and assessment where required.
  2. Develop service plans with clients that address individualized needs.
  3. Maintain client records.
  4. Maintain linkages with community treatment providers.
  5. Complete accurate and comprehensive service delivery reports.
  6. Conduct individual and group counseling sessions.
  7. Serve as a resource to staff on substance abuse issues.
