What work will you perform?


The Director of BCO Qualifications leads the team responsible for onboarding independent owner operator truck drivers for Landstar. In this role you will ensure that the team adheres to the Landstar BCO qualification guidelines, policies, and procedures in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs). You will monitor and drive performance to meet KPIs while promoting a collaborative environment that honors Landstar's safety first culture. Landstar is embracing the changes AI is bringing to the industry and seeks someone who also sees the innovative value this approach brings. The ideal candidate has experience with DOT and FMCSA regulations, can operate autonomously in a very busy and complex environment and has experience implementing process improvements.



Essential Responsibilities:



  • Develop, understand, communicate, and attain Landstar capacity objectives
  • Identify opportunities for improvement related to team processes, driving efficiencies, productivity, and customer satisfaction
  • Comply with DOT requirements
  • Ensure policies, procedures, and days-to-qualify metrics are met
  • Plan, assign, and direct work that is results-focused and develop leadership and managerial skills within the department
  • Interview, hire, and train employees to thrive in a production, results-driven environment
  • Establish effective KPIs for employees and third-party qualification centers consistent with quality and growth objectives, and manage their performance
  • Onboard and oversee third-party qualification centers, monitoring and managing the quality and contribution of work


  • Meet with investigators during audits, provide documentation, and communication as warranted
  • Act as a corporate representative in legal depositions regarding Landstar's process and procedures for qualifying BCOs
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets



Required Minimum Experience and Education:



  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience


  • 4 years of leadership experience



Preferred Experience and Education:



  • 2 years of experience in recruiting and qualifying over the road drivers
  • Experience driving with process improvement initiatives
  • 2 years of experience with DOT/FMCSA regulations



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Ability to learn and understand regulations


  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to travel and to work outside of normal schedule as needed
  • Excellent presentation skills, including to large audiences
