Position Summary

Install, maintain, and repair the College's HVAC/Refrigeration systems.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial and industrial HVAC/R systems, including rooftop units (RTUs) and kitchen equipment.
  • Familiarity and understanding of operating and maintaining a campus BAS system.
  • Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and control system issues to minimize downtime.
  • Inspect facilities and prioritize repairs, improvements, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Read and interpret work orders, schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Replace defective components, wiring, and mechanical parts; perform system upgrades and modifications as needed.
  • Ensure plumbing, water, sewer, electrical, mechanical, and emergency backup systems remain fully operational.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities and completed work. Accurately document all service details using the college's work order management system.
  • Perform maintenance and emergency service as needed, including after-hours on occasion.
  • Follow all safety procedures and regulatory requirements; identify and report unsafe conditions. Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely
  • Maintain your tools, and parts inventory to the highest standards
  • Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities
  • Other duties to support the functions of the department may include: painting, carpentry, plumbing, etc. as needed
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent from a technical/trade school with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning and/or Stationary Engineering or 10 years related commercial experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid state driver's license
  • EPA- Universal certification. Ability to follow all EPA guidelines in recovery, record keeping and reporting.
  • Proven experience in maintaining and troubleshooting commercial or industrial HVAC systems, kitchen equipment, and various other equipment.
  • Working knowledge of compressors, condensers, evaporators, controls, and electrical systems.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and system optimization.

Skills and Specificiations:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to learn technological applications
  • Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems and practices is required
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Ability to work with others
