Overview
Element is hiring a General Manager at our lab in Gainesvilled, GA., who is responsible and accountable for all Element business operations and processes within the assigned location (profit and loss responsibility). Element Atlanta-Gainesville is a dedicated battery testing laboratory providing accredited safety, performance, cycling, abuse, and regulatory testing for all major lithium, nickel, alkaline, and emerging battery chemistries. Serving automotive, aerospace, medical device, consumer electronics, wearables, and industrial markets, the laboratory helps manufacturers ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of battery-powered products.
Responsibilities
Supervisory Responsibilities
Operating in the locations' top leadership role, the General Manager is fully accountable and ultimately responsible for all hired personnel dedicated to the location
- Works with assigned staff to ensure work schedules are maintained and balanced
- Maintains an environment of respect and dignity within the location covering employee interactions, engagement, and problem solving while ensuring work rules are known and followed
- All functions within the lab fall under the General Manager's direct purview
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible and accountable to drive and deliver to annual Operational Plan commitments including: revenues, profit, working capital and operational performance
- Lead and inspire a culture of safety first
- Responsible to work with location support functions and systems including Quality, Safety and Health, Sales and Strategic Accounts, Finance, Human Resources, Operational Excellence, and Business Improvement
- Maintains current knowledge of corporate and location policies and procedures
- Develops and executes short- and long-term business plans and strategies to include operational goals, equipment needs, and staffing for the location
- Works in conjunction with long-term group goals to develop and implement strategies based on geographic business industry knowledge, technical capability and expertise, and capital expenditures needs
- Actively maintains contact and relationships with top location accounts in line with Element policies, and participates as necessary to cultivate new accounts
- Provides managerial guidance to staff on reporting needs and requirements
- Reviews reports, activities status, productivity, budget variance, and all other significant business issues on at least a monthly basis
- Prepares and submits accurate forecasts as required, maintains acceptable levels of working capital, and determines and executes on corrective actions necessary to achieve plan goals
- Provides guidance, direction and developmental opportunities that allow staff talents to be identified and groomed.
- Likewise, provide direction and counseling to underperforming employees
- Provides positive leadership and representation of Element to the public, customers, vendors, and to all employees through membership in professional organizations, serving on Company Task Forces, conducting employee meetings and visiting work areas
- Ensures compliance with all Element policies including but not limited to Terms and Conditions, trade compliance, treatment of others and the moral code of conduct
- Ensures adherence to all local, state, and federal laws pertaining to safety, environment and corporate governance
Skills / Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in engineering, science, or technical-related discipline required
- 10+ years of experience in a management role leading an enterprise with at least 25 employees and 3-6 subordinate exempt level managers/supervisors overmultiple shifts
- Must possess a strong ability to communicate (written and oral) effectively with clients and colleagues with great attention to detail and timing of results
- Ability to organize the lab as a whole in line with the strategic, operational and technical goals of the entire company
- Strong organizational, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to effectively establish and maintain two-way communications to understand the needs and concerns of all departments
- Ability to effectively provide managerial guidance to all staff on all functions within the lab
- Ability to deeply analyze and resolve operational, finance and other significant business issues on a daily basis
- Has broad business, finance and operational excellence acumen
- Demonstrates deep knowledge of Element capabilities, processes and expertise to be able to clearly explain the benefits of
- Element testing services to all audiences, both internal and external
- Maintains a deep understanding of the both the market in which the lab is located as well as the national and global Testing, Inspection and Certification market
- Demonstrated ability to translate market awareness into both a strategic and tactical management approach which contributes to the success of the lab at all levels
- Proven track record of success with regard to managerial, technical and operational competency both inside and outside of the lab. Regarded by stakeholders within the lab and within Element as a successful focused leader
- Proficient computer skills. Requires good working knowledge of Word and Excel, including plotting/charting and data manipulation, and experience with Outlook
