The Grid Innovation Delivery team scales new innovative technologies and solutions into standard tools and products that PG&E utilizes to deliver for our hometowns and serve our planet. The team is a bridge between early R&D innovation efforts and established operational organizations. Grid Innovation Delivery (GID) executes a comprehensive set of activities to successfully deploy and operate new technologies and concepts including solution strategy, identification and development of deployments, new process creation, IT system integration, solution standardization and post-deployment field operations & maintenance. The team steers towards quickly scaling new technology programs into a well-documented, sustainable and mature state that can achieve long term success within PG&E's existing lines of business.

Remote Grid (RG) is the GID team's cornerstone program. Remote Grids cost-effectively address wildfire risk by serving customers with fully islanded(24/7/365) microgrids of solar, batteries, and fuel-powered generation. Once built, PG&E permanently removes the high-risk overhead power lines. The GID team deployed and currently operates nine RGs with plans to grow the fleet to two dozen in the next two years. Position Summary

TheGrid Innovation Deliveryteam isseekinga curious, tenaciouscollegestudent to join us for the summer of2026.We'relooking for someone eager to learn about California's energy system andwho'sinterested inscalingup the deployment ofnew technologyto best serve customers.You'llbe asked to help us craft the scope of your internship in your first weeks on the job to make sure that your summer experience at PG&E meets your goals and interests.

You'lljoin acollaborativeteam of13individuals with varied backgrounds spanning engineering, policy, product management, process improvement, andmore.This intern will work directlywithin GID'sRemote GridDeployment teamwhere Grid Innovation Engineersserve asRemote Gridproject engineers, own the technical execution to PG&E standards, developnew standards and process documentation to mature the program,andsupport Operations and Maintenance (O&M) performance analytics and root cause investigation.

This position is hybrid with the expectation of working in PG&E's General Office in downtown Oakland, CA approximately 1-2 days per week.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $28.73 to $29.81.

Responsibilities

This position will have the opportunity to support many aspects of a Grid Innovation Engineers' work, including electrical design and cross-functional elements such as project management and data analytics. You'll learn about the Remote Grid technology (solar, battery, generator standalone power systems) and PG&E's associated standards and processes. You'll participate in regular standups and collaborative meetings, working with teams across PG&E to improve the Remote Grid program. You'll also complete individual work related to the tools, design, and sizing of Remote Grid systems. You'll be asked to provide a final presentation to close out your internship and to share with Grid Innovation Delivery about your learnings, accomplishments, and recommendations for how we can improve.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering at an accredited University
  • Students must be continuing their education towards degree during and/or after the internship
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work location

Desired:

  • Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Minimum two years of college completed
  • Coursework and/or experience with data analytics and power systems
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience with microgrid modeling,e.g.Homer Pro
  • Experience withPython and SQL
  • Experience withdevelopingandenhancingengineeringtools
  • Experience with load profiles, forecasting,andmodeling
  • Demonstratedinterest in today's energy landscape and howit'sshaped by regulatory and market forces
  • Demonstratedinterest innew technologyand product development
  • Ability to translate complex technical information into compelling stories
  • Ability to work in acollaborativeteam environment and support fellow team members
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Growth mindset, curiosity, and desire to learn and develop
