Description

The Department Manager - Installation is responsible for leading and growing insulation operations across residential and commercial projects. This role provides full oversight of field and office operations, including estimating, job costing, labor planning, subcontractor strategy, safety, quality, financial performance, and sales support and business development efforts. The position requires regular job-site presence, strong leadership, and data-driven decision-making.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



  • Provide overall leadership and operational oversight for the insulation division
  • Oversee residential and commercial insulation projects from pre-construction through completion
  • Conduct regular job-site visits to monitor safety, quality, productivity, and schedule adherence
  • Prepare, review, and approve project estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs
  • Analyze job costs, labor productivity, and margins to drive profitability and operational efficiency
  • Determine which projects should be self-performed versus subcontracted based on cost, capacity, risk, and quality
  • Manage departmental budgets, forecasts, KPIs, and reporting using Acumatica ERP
  • Partner with internal sales teams and other departments to support cross-company opportunities and integrated project delivery
  • Provide technical and pricing support for external customer proposals, bids, and presentations
  • Assist in identifying new business opportunities and market expansion within residential and commercial insulation services
  • Collaborate with Sales, Project Management, Finance, and Safety teams to ensure successful project execution
  • Identify, qualify, and manage subcontractors, including pricing, scopes of work, performance, and compliance
  • Establish and enforce quality standards to minimize rework and warranty exposure
  • Champion a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and jobsite safety plans
  • Support process improvement initiatives and contribute to long-term operational and growth planning



Supervisory Responsibility:



  • Directly manage leadership and supervisory roles, including the Field Staff Manager and other supervisors as assigned
  • Provide coaching, performance management, and development for field and office personnel
  • Support workforce planning, hiring needs, training, and succession planning
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement



Required Education and Experience:



  • 5+ years of experience in insulation, weatherization, construction, or energy efficiency installation
  • 2+ years of supervisory or management experience
  • Strong background in estimating, job costing, and financial analysis
  • Prior experience leading managers or supervisory personnel
  • Proficiency with Acumatica ERP or similar construction ERP systems
  • Solid understanding of insulation methods, building envelopes, and applicable building and energy codes
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to jobsites regularly



Preferred:



  • Experience with weatherization assistance programs or utility-sponsored energy efficiency programs
  • Relevant certifications (BPI, OSHA 10/30, Lead-Safe, etc.)
  • Experience supporting sales efforts or working closely with sales teams in a construction or specialty trade environment
  • Experience overseeing both self-perform crews and subcontracted work
  • Prior P&L or departmental budget ownership
  • Experience scaling or improving operations within a construction or specialty trade environment
  • Strong cross-functional leadership experience within growing organizations



Work Environment:

This position operates primarily in a professional office environment and regularly uses standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and other business machines. The role also requires periodic work in field environments, which may involve exposure to varying conditions such as heat, cold, heights, dust, dirt, indoor and outdoor settings, and confined spaces.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time, on-site, position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday with specific hours to be mutually agreed upon.



Travel:

The position is approximately 50% field-based and 50% office-based and requires regular job-site presence. Travel expected throughout RI and MA territories.
