Wieland is hiring a Quality Engineer. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for executing the Quality Engineering functions in a timely manner with the primary focus to support internal and external customers on product quality and continuous improvement. This is an individual contributor role.

This role is based at Wieland's Morgan Bronze facility located in Lake Zurich, IL. While this role is local, occasional travel to local customers may be required.

Base Salary Range: $105,000 - $110,000 annually.

May be eligible for a variable compensation plan bonus based upon company performance within the fiscal year cycle. May be eligible for car allowance and other benefits.

This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations ("ITAR"), and the ability to access and handle ITAR "Technical Data" as defined by 22 CFR * 120.33 is an essential function.



Responsibilities

Quality Engineer Responsibilities:

    Create and maintain process control and quality documentation for product manufacture such as PCP's, FMEA's, Process Flows.
  • Provide Technical direction and support to manufacturing personnel and inspectors/technicians including assisting in inspection as necessary.
  • New Product review, APQP, assessment to update BOM to communicate defined customer specific quality requirements from the contract.
  • Responsible for assigned customer quality activities including compilation and submission of PPAP/FAIR's, and management of customer concerns to close out issues using 8D methodology.
  • Liaise with internal process owners to ensure timely closeout of internal/external customer corrective action, and verify effectiveness.
  • Assist in company drive to improve KPI's such as the reduction of COPQ, PPM, Scrap $.
  • Perform supplier audits, assessments, development as necessary.
  • Assist in the development of documented inspection and verification procedure and identify appropriate gauging methodology on inspection documentation.
  • Continual development and management of Layered Process Audit program.
  • Quality initiatives to support continuous improvement through lean mfg. and six-sigma methodology.
  • Participate in the training of personnel to various quality procedures and instructions and verify effectiveness to ensure all personnel follow measurement and process control techniques.
  • Assist with the gauge calibration program for process, technique, and timeliness.
  • Analyze relevant data related to quality (NCR's, GR&R's, CAR's, etc..) using statistical techniques, and measurement systems.

  • Follow safety rules, and all company policies and procedures.
  • Work extended hours when necessary ensuring on time completion of projects to meet goals.
  • Complete a minimum of 2 documents continuous improvement projects annually.
  • Develop knowledge of company products, manufacturing practices, and understanding of materials.
  • Promotion of high levels of customer satisfaction within own area of expertise/accountability.
  • Act as customer Self Release Delegate (If assigned).
  • Keep areas of work clean and tidy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Continue personal development - Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
  • Quality Management System
  • Activities as assigned related to and in support of the Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Assist quality manager with the generation of documentation related to the quality management system such as procedures, work instructions, risk assessments, etc.
  • Perform internal audits in line with ISO9001, AS9100, ISO14001, LPA, Configuration
  • Support and take accountability for the QEMS through the promotion of risk-based thinking, communication, promoting continual improvement in all areas and shall be customer focused.
  • Facilitate maintenance, changes, recertification's and internal audit systems for manufacturing Certifications including but not limited to ISO9001 & AS9100.

Quality Engineer Qualifications:

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, and ERP).
  • Advanced blueprint reading.
  • Advanced understanding of GD&T.
  • CAD/CAM experience preferred (Solidworks).
  • Proper measuring techniques with a variety of gages.
  • Knowledge of ferrous and/or non-ferrous materials.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • High school diploma or GED required, Bachelor's preferred.
  • Prior manufacturing experience in a machining job shop preferred.
  • Ability to meet color vision examination and Near vision to 20/25 corrected.
  • 5-8 years of experience required.
