HJF is seeking a Research Assistant II to perform research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects. The Research Assistant provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff and solves problems of standard complexity in carrying out research projects in a clinical or laboratory environment.

This position will be in support of The Military Relevant Bacterial Diseases Department (MRBD) and The Combat Wound Infections Division (CWID). The goals of MRBD and CWID are research, optimization, and preclinical testing of novel therapeutics against common soft-skin and tissue infections that are militarily relevant.

  • Follows instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Conducts and assists investigations in animal studies (small animal surgery, large surgery, monitor, post-surgery observation, data collection and analysis at time points) in support of research studies and applies quality control measures as outlined/required by the protocol.
  • Helps prepare, set up, and teardown for small and large animal studies.
  • Assists with the writing and editing of experimental results for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Performs routine data input and verifies and corrects data entries.
  • Maintains records and documentation regarding assigned research.
  • Documents current or new procedures or protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or statistical estimation and maintain compliance with established laboratory safety and other procedures.
  • Make detailed observations on experiments.
  • Assists in the preparation of reports, publications, and presentations.
  • May provide basic instruction to other lab staff.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to follow general instructions.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to climb, pull, and lift heavy objects.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $22.16-$28.77. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
