Duties, Responsibilities & Other

The Energy Distribution Intern will support the design and analysis of electrical distribution systems serving residential, commercial, and industrial customers. This role provides hands-on experience in both office design work and field operations, building foundational knowledge in power distribution engineering. Interns will assist with overhead and underground projects, support field data collection and technical analysis, and gain exposure to how modern distribution systems leverage emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, and AI-driven automation tools to improve design efficiency, predictive analysis, and system performance. Interns will work alongside engineers, designers, field crews, and clients while gaining insight into both traditional engineering workflows and innovative digital solutions. Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Assisting with electric distribution design drawings and Bills of Material (BOM)
  • Participating in field data collection and site inspections
  • Supporting basic technical analysis (cable pulling, voltage drop, transformer loading, and pole loading calculations)
  • Assisting with data organization and exposure to AI- and machine learning-supported tools used for system modeling, optimization, and workflow automation
  • Gaining familiarity with electrical distribution components, overhead and underground systems, conduit, switchgear, capacitor banks, and utility standards
  • Helping prepare permitting and project documentation
  • Observing coordination between engineers, clients, customers, and construction crews
  • Participating in safety meetings and field safety practices
  • Supporting storm response efforts at an appropriate level, when applicable


Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in ABET accredited engineering program.
  • Valid Driver's License required
