| Position Summary |
The HR Manager for the College of Engineering is a highly responsible position reporting directly to the Associate Director and is expected to provide efficient and effective HR support to the College of Engineering, while meeting all College and
UGA deadlines. This position will focus heavily on Staff employment functions: staff searches and hiring, staff employee relations, staff developmental pathways, staff advancement and other aspects of the staff employment lifecycle in the College of Engineering, while also examining procedural and structural improvements to the organization of the Office of Human Resources and the College of Engineering. In addition to staff employment position management and related functions, this position will help guide Faculty members on the
VRS (Visiting Research Scholar) process, including registration, agreements, and background checks.
This position will be expected to stay abreast of current policy and procedures related to human resources at a College, University, state, and federal level, including advising College faculty and staff of new and updated policies and guidelines.
The HR Manager will also serve as the first point of contact for the HR Coordinator's G/R/S/T hiring and procedural questions, with the Associate Director serving as the secondary point of contact when escalation is needed.
The position of Human Resources Manager is highly responsible and involves a level of extreme discretion, confidentiality, independent judgement, and initiative. |

Hiring Lifecycle & Position Management for Staff Hiring
- Advising hiring faculty and staff members on the relevant position types and policies for these employment types.
- Initiate and process Staff college-level actions in UGAJobs, including gathering all pre-hire information for positions; creating and submitting relevant paperwork; creating, submitting, and initiating new positions and hires; position updates and changes; salary change requests, and re-classifications.
- Preparing necessary documents for relevant employment and hire types, such as offer letters, and Reduction in Force paperwork as needed.
- Serve as point-of-contact and SME on the UGA Journeys program. Share information, timeframe with college community. Use Journeys to guide supervisors on career mapping and growth conversations.
- Compare and contrast internal pay rates for Staff positions, as well as pay rates on campus, and provide accurate ranges to hiring units prior to the posting stage.
- Gathering necessary information for preparing postings; submitting postings; reviewing candidate pools; creating and submitting offer letters to the relevant offices; and creating and submitting Hiring Proposals.
- Supporting Search Chair and search committee members on proper and equitable search processes for Staff searches
- Coordinate new hires with Engineering Facilities Management, Engineering Business Office, and Engineering IT, including submitting requests for keys and office access as well as nameplates - this includes updating relevant spreadsheets on a weekly basis.
- Submitting termination requests in OneUSG for departing Staff members, while also informing Business Office, Facilities, and IT of separations.
- Provide current and prospective employees with information about policies, job duties, working conditions, wages, opportunities for promotion, and employee benefits.
- Send proper onboarding materials to newly hired or returning Staff, as well as answer relevant questions when needed.
- Submission of PCard requests as needed.
- Assist hiring managers in recruitment and search strategies as needed.
- Provide guidance to supervisors on employee professional advancement and development pathways as needed.
- Participate in staff-related Re-Org requests, as needed.
